I was at Malacca over the weekend and had a mega food trail for the whole day in Saturday. I will blog about it in details on the next post. Before that, here is the dinner choice for the night.




 Restoran Tong Sheng is well-known with its signature Cheese Prawn dish and since then it got famous within the locals and tourists. The restaurant is located further away from Jonker Street but closer to Malacca Central. It is just opposite of Amy Heritage restaurant. The best mode of transportation is by car or cab if you are staying near Jonker Street.
 We arrived around 7.30pm and the queue has started to form. The restaurant was full house and we waited for an hour before we managed to secure a table. When we finally get to sit down, we need to wait for another 30-45 minutes for the foods to be served. There is a long process of waiting due to the overwhelming crowds. The best part is that we only aware that WIFI service is available towards the end of the meal. But thankfully, we managed to get ourselves off the phone and spent hours looking at each other.

Foods
Cheese Prawn Beehoon 芝士生虾米粉 – RM33.00 (S)
 This is the signature dish to try when you are dining with them. If you observe tables around you, this dish is definitely in the list. The cheese melted into the gravy and slightly diluted. The prawns were fresh and well-cooked. It comes in the portion of S, M & L with different pricing.

Fresh Milk Crab 鲜奶炒螃蟹-RM127.40 

This is also the popular dish for this zhi char restaurant too. There is a minimum order when you order crab. Each crab dish order must be at least 2 crabs. Fresh milk crab in Tong Sheng is quite an acquired flavour. It has the combination of sweet and sour-ish taste in it. I do admit that I didn’t really enjoy it when I took the first bite due to the sour-ish taste but subsequently enjoyed it. Crabs were fresh and juicy. Complimentary toasted bread sticks were served with the dish to dip.

Special Beancurds 金沙豆腐 – RM15.00 (S)

This dish is the steamed tofu with salted egg which is also recommended in the menu list and as well as online review. I personally enjoyed the bits of salted egg yolk in it and added flavors to the soft and silky tofu. It is best to go with a bowl of white rice or plain porridge. But not everyone will enjoy this as one of us finds it slight powdery taste.

Vegetable – RM8.00 (S)
 We also ordered a plate of vegetable to complete our meal.

The queuing system was systematic and customers were waiting patiently for their turn. I am quite surprised that no one complains or makes a fuss for the long wait during the whole dining session. Neverthless, I will be back to try their cheese steamboat and other zhi char dishes provided I do not need to queue for more than 30 minutes. Our whole dinner session from queuing till the end was 3 hours plus. This is the longest wait I ever experienced in Malacca.

Total bill inclusive of drinks and 6% GST charges was RM196.53. (RM185.40 before GST)

Note: Peanuts and wet tissues served on the table are chargeable. If you do not wish to add in to your bill, please inform the staff once before they served you or reject them politely when they serve.
