Barashi-Tei located at Middle Road is a few weeks old Japanese Restaurant in town. The founder and chef, Mr Wang Zhen Feng picked up his culinary skills from a 60 years old Japanese Master Chef who has more than 40 years of experience. The restaurant is just conveniently located next to Le Café Confectionary & Pastry, the famous soya tarts. We were told that their ingredients are freshly imported from Japan to bring out the essence of Japanese food.
The restaurant is decorated with Japanese-style concept. There are sushi counter and also dining areas cater for small and big groups. The staffs are available at their work station preparing to attend customers’ needs.
So, I was there one of the weekdays with fellow foodies to check out the foods here. We tried their maki , yakimono, kushi yaki and don which are all available in the menu.
Avocado Salmon Salad S$13.80
I would never say NO to avocado and salmon.
Spicy Salmon Maki S$12.80
The maki includes the ebi tempura wrapped with rice and aburi salmon with spicy mentaiko and ikura as topping.
Dragon Maki S$8.80
The maki includes eel (unagi) with avocado which was my favourite ingredients.
Rice Paper Ebi Maki S$10.80
Instead of using nori (seaweed), the chef uses the rice paper to wrap the ebi tempura.
Ika Teriyaki S$13.80
Grilled squid coated with teriyaki sauce.
Oyster Bacon Kyushu S$3.80
Chirashi Don S$23.00
Bara Chirashi S$13.80
A bowl of affordable chirashi don with cubes of salmon, maguro, mekajiki, tamgo and ikura.
Gindara Nabe S$24.00
If you prefer soupy dish, this would be an option for you. The portion is best to share between 2 pax.
Sirloin Steak Foie Gras S$19.80
The combination of sirloin steak and foe gras was just perfect and I will be back for this.
Kurama Ebi/ Wasabi Ebi S$7.80
In summary, Barashi-Tei offers an affordable pricing with good quality of Japanese foods. Having said that, the ingredients used are imported from Japan weekly. With the price offered, I can foresee myself going back to try other dishes. They also have set lunch priced from S$8.00 to S$10.00 which is superb affordable especially in town.
