[SG EVENT] SINGAPORE NATIONAL TEAM COMPETING AT CULINARY OLYMPICS 2016 | ERFURT GERMANY

The word ‘Olympics’ gives me the first link to sports until I was introduced to Culinary Olympics over an event on 19th August (my birthday). While, everyone is celebrating the Singapore Gold Medallist Joseph Schooling who won the men’s 100 metre butterfly, I guess we can look forward next Gold from the Singapore National Culinary Team?

Thanks to Jenny, I have the opportunity to learn more the Culinary Olympics which was founded in 1896 which has the similar concept as Olympic Games. The competition brings the best chefs from around the world. The event only held every four (4) years in the same year as the Olympic Games, where the world’s best chefs gather in Erfurt Germany to compete for the medals. So, for this year 2016 Culinary Olympics will be held from 21-26 October 2016. There will be 2000 over chefs from 40 countries gather together for this competition.

Do you know that Singapore National Culinary Team is one of the best National Culinary Teams in the world? Singapore Chefs’ Association has groomed numerous teams to represent the country and do the country proud by scoring championships. The team will be competing for this October culinary competition.

The purpose of the competition is to show the world whose cuisine is the best. The prizes go to teams or individuals who demonstrate the techniques, taste and presentation applied during preparation. It’s all about detailing and culinary arts and kitchen preparation. The most importance of the scoring points includes the pristine neatness, variety of the preparation of dishes and culinary demonstration.

We had the opportunity to taste the 3-course meal crafted by the Singapore National Culinary Team for the Culinary Olympics 2016 during the session at The Sapling. However, I cannot share the photos here yet. The 3-courses for the competition include a cold appetizer, a hot main course and a dessert.
It was a delicious treat and eye-opener for me as the veteran chefs shared the detailing of the creative dishes along the session. Each dish was creatively crafted with techniques. Chefs are also trying out new development of culinary style to bring out the characteristic and elements of the dishes.

It was an amazing 2 hours session with a group of dedicated and passion chefs who gather together to show support and advice to the Culinary Team.
I also learnt quite a bit throughout the session.
