I rarely get in touch with Lebanses & Mediterranean Cuisine but my recent visit to Urban Bites gives me a new insight of the cuisine. Lebanese cuisine is a Levantine cuisine according to Wikipedia. It includes an abundance of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, starches, fresh fish and seafood and animal fats. It also have acquired taste for certain dishes.
I visited Urban Bites , which is situated within a walking distance from Telok Ayer MRT Station sometime ago. It is a cosy restaurant with nice ambience for diners to spend some private moments together. The restaurant also offers delivery through FoodPanda as well.
Anyway, here are the dishes I tried that day:
Saturday Brunch Items
(Available from 9:30AM – 4:00PM)
Cheese Manouche S$16.00++
Freshly baked flat bread stuffed with four varieties of Lebanese cheese-jeddal, feta, mozzarella and Akkawi followed by onions and parsley sprinkled on top. This is a popular Levantine bread if you are wondering.
Eggs with Lamb Shashouka S$20.00++
Slow-cooked lamb shoulder marinated for 24-hours with aromatic Lebanese spices before roasted till fall-off-the bone tender. The dish consists of the pulled lamb and three poached eggs steeped in a fragrant house-made sauce consisting fresh tomatoes, chilli peppers , cumin and onions. Then, followed by adding feta cheese and kale leaves served with freshly baked Lebanese bread. The flavours are rich, strong and complex I would say but it goes pretty well with the bread.
Fettet Cauliflower S$15.00++
Vegetarian option is available for brunch item. This fettet cauliflower is nicely roasted with garlic-chilli,toasted crunchy chickpeas and topped with velvety yoghurt. This dish comes with bread and fresh greens as well. This is kinda too healthy for me with yoghurt in it but surprisingly it is pretty good especially u enjoyed it with the bread.
New Menu Dishes
Burghul mixed with fresh herbs onions and tomatoe sauce, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, pomegranate seeds and drizzle with lemon oil.
Samke Harra S$29.00++
200g pan-seared, baked seabass fillet coated with tahini dressing served with homemade baba ghanoush and baked potato slices. Love the tenderness of the fish and this is palatable.
Mixed Grill S$33.00++
Their signature four charcoal-grilled kebabs- Shish Taouk (cubed chicken), Shikaf Lahmeh (cubed beef tenderloin), Kafta Lamb (minced lamb), and Kafta Chicken (minced chicken) skewers. It comes with fries, mesclun salad and a toum dip. This is best for sharing.
We ended with the flash-fried filo strings, homemade sweet clotted cream and strawberries slices dessert. The dessert is garnished with crushed pistachio and dried rose petals to give an extra bites and visual to it. It has the sweet, sour and crunchy elements in it.
