During my Tokyo trip last year, I passed by Tokyo Station almost everyday. Tokyo Station is one of the largest stations in Japan and there are many retail shops and restaurant to explore. It is the hub for the Shinkansen. So be sure to spare some time to explore the station when you are there in Tokyo, Japan. We were looking for a quick dinner place and came across Tamejiro. Tamejiro is a soba restaurant by Honke Nishio Yatsuhashi. I went to google about this place and found out that this restaurant is opened in February 2012 and they are famous with their Japanese treat, Yatsuhashi.
There is an ordering machine right outside the restaurant with photo, description and pricing. Customers are requested to place their order and make payment on the spot before proceeding to be seated in the restaurant.
Here is the English menu.
We ordered their signature Herring Roe & Herring Soba 1,300 YEN ~S$16.36 and Chilled Soba with Duck Dipping Sauce 1,100 YEN ~S$13.84 for dinner. Our orders came within 15 mins.
The sweet and tender herring atop of soba in a hot tsuyu broth is perfect for a cold weather in Japan. The bowl of nishin soba was cleansing and comforting.
Chilled Soba with Duck Dipping Sauce was indeed refreshing. The fat of the duck enriches the taste of the soup and it pairs very well with the chilled soba. Simply satisfying!
Our meal ended with sweet biscuits served together with our order. We walked out from the restaurant feeling happy and satisfied. We went back for dinner again few days later.
They are open early morning and offer soba, udon and ramen throughout the day. The space is limited and narrow. Thus, it is not suitable for big family or more than 4 people in a group. Otherwise, you cannot sit together for the meal. Most people here will just eat and go as it is customize for commuters or customers who want to have a quick meal before heading off to next destination.
