[SG EATS] Inaugural Wine Pairing with Vietnamese Cuisine | WRAP & ROLL
My first experience with Wrap & Roll was quite a while at their outlet at The Star Vista. Wrap & Roll is a chain of outlets offering Vietnamese cuisine in Singapore and they are launching the new concept; semi semi-dining Vietnamse menu soon. They are awarded as the winner of Best Asian Chain Restaurant by Epicurean Star Award Singapore 2015.
I joined E to their preview tasting located at Changi City Point last week to try on their Wine Pairing with Vietnamese Cuisine at the price of S$88.00++. With this price, diners are able to enjoy free flow wine throughout the dinner session. Each different course was paired with different wine.
FIRST COURSE
Vietnamese Steamed Prawns in Coconut Juice X Mt. Fishtail Pinot Gris
We started off with the refreshing starter with the combination of the prawns’ sweetness and the milky coconut juice. Then, we were given the red wine, Mt. Fishtail Pinot Gris to pair with it.
SECOND COURSE
The soup was clear with bites of crabmeats and corns in it. The taste of the soup was light and it could be better if the taste is enhanced with stronger flavour.
THIRD COURSE
Grilled Chicken Stuffed with Assorted Herbs X Casa Danoso 1810 Cabernet Sauvignon-Carmenere
The grilled chicken was executed well with tenderness and moist in it. The assorted herbs stuffed in it enhanced the flavour of this dish. And along with this suggested glass of red wine that fits in the lingering taste.
FOURTH COURSE
Beef Cheeks with Pho Soup Reduction OR Vietnamese Braised Crispy Duck Leg X Konrad Pinot Noir
We were given two options to choose from and I had Beef Cheeks with Pho Soup Reduction. It would be better if the beef cheeks taste was not overpowering and the pho soup to enhance the flavours. Although the beef cheeks were tender and juicy, it does not go well with the overall dish.
E had Vietnamese Braised Crispy Duck Leg and it looks promising than me. The duck meats were tender and moist but it could be better if more sauces are spread on the plating to pair with it.
DESSERT
Ginger Ice-cream with fresh berries and cookie crumble
The dessert was the saviour of the meal. The ginger ice-cream was smooth and retains the pungent ginger aroma in it. It’s my first time trying ginger ice-cream and I find it quite interesting.
As a whole dinner of S$88.00++, free flow of wine is indeed a good deal considering that wines are not cheap by its own. However, I would hope that there would be a tweaking on the foods recipe to improve on the taste of the dishes. Perhaps I am used to traditional Vietnamese foods; I find this new concept of combining the mixed Asians and Western flavours will need time to be accepted. Nevertheless, the menu will be changed from time to time so you can expect surprises and expectations from the outlet.
