[SG EATS] BIG LAZY CHOP 大懶排 – MODERN ZI CHAR FARE
Big Lazy Chop is located at the Centurion Student Living Hostel building 300 meter away from the Peace Centre. I was not aware that there are eateries inside this hostel building until I came here for the tasting session. Big Lazy Chop offers modern zi char fare that suits the youth’s preferences. They have the indoor and outdoor seating space for diners.
Here are the foods that we tried that night:
Wok-Fried XL Crabs – Indo Curry S$70.00/kg
Live Sri Lankan Import with size 800-850g
Mantou S$0.60++/pc (Available in Steamed or Pan-fried)
This was one of the highlight dish. The curry broth of the Indo Curry was flavourful and spicy in taste. This is rather different from our usual crabs fare but surprisingly the combination works well. And of course must-have pan-fried mantou to dip on the curry broth. If you prefer the spiciness to be level up, you can request for it.
Seafood
Big Lazy Prawns with Crispy Crackers S$20.00++
Handmade Fresh Crab Money Bag S$18.00++
The skin of the money bag is made of egg whites and wrapped with crab meats. So much effort from making the skin from scratch and it is only available 20 sets everyday. Limited quantities!
Pork
Saucy XL Spare Ribs S$20.00++ (Salted Egg )
Drunken XL Spare Ribs S$23.00++ (Butter Champagne)
I enjoyed the butter champagne ribs. It was tender, flavourful and juicy. I would advise to enjoy it with your hands instead of fork and knife. This will give you a sense of satisfaction while you lick your fingers away.
As for the salted egg spare ribs, the salted egg taste was not intense in flavour. We were told that they did not add in condensed milk to make the sauce creamy as they prefer customers to taste the original taste.
Beancurd
Hot Plate Hakka Beancurd S$13.00++
This hotplate goodness is made from beancurd. The beancurd is handmade with fresh soy bean milk daily. Loving the sizzling sound when it served and it goes pretty well with a bowl of white rice.
Desserts
Fried Chestnuts Bars (2-3 pax) S$8.00++
My first time trying fried chestnuts bars and I find it pretty innovative dessert. It looks like banana fritters with water chestnut slices in it.
Big Lazy Chop has quite a variety of zi-char fare to explore. Their spare ribs are definitely a must-try dish when you visit them. And not forgetting their crabs! What I like about this place is that they provide disposable gloves and aprons for diners to enjoy their spare ribs and crabs in peace. This is especially helpful for those who does not wish to get their hands dirty and stains on their clothes. If you are nearby for the Rochor beancurd, why not drop by here for a hearty meal?
