Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant (家味) located at Level 2 of Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy is a contemporary Chinese restaurant with a modern take on their interior space. The restaurant offers variety of dishes that are best suit for families and big group diners. Uptown Nasi Lemak at Telok Ayer Coffeeshop is opened by two Malaysians who grew up in Damansara Uptown, Malaysia. Online reviews mentioned that they are unable to find the same taste of Malaysian nasi lemak in Singapore. Thus, they decided to recreate the taste and dish here. SAKEMARU Artisan Sake Hideout is nestled in a shophouse along South Bridge Road is a Japanese restaurant started by the group behind SAKEMARU in early 2021. SAKEMARU is a sake subscription service in Singapore. The restaurant features curated collection of over 300+ type of sake with food menu that is available in ala carte and omakase options. The price is affordable for ala carte dishes and omakase is price at S$200++ per pax onwards. Read More
Feng Xiang Klang Bak Kut Teh is another Malaysian-style bak kut teh to go if you are missing it. The stall is started by Malaysians who grew up in Klang. The Original Vadai used to be one of the popular stalls at pasar malams. The stall has then found two permanent place to sell their vadai and other deep-fried snacks. I went to their first outlet at Golden Mile Food Centre recently. They are also available at Joo Chiat place if you are nearby. Based on online reviews and information, Mr Suriyah is the second-generation owner. There are also the only vadai shop to be Halal-Certified in Singapore. Read More
Ren Lounge located at South Beach Avenue is a new Japanese Omakase restaurant in town. The restaurant is helmed by Executive Chef Samuel Lau, who has 7 years of experience at Japanese restaurants and as sushi chef at Shinji by Kanesawa (St Regis). There is a separate lounge and private room for diners to chill and relax after a long day at work with a choice of bar bites. Birds of A Feather located at Amoy Street is known for its contemporary western cuisine with pronounced Sichuan influence. Ever since it’s opening, the restaurant is well-received with positive reviews on their dishes. I visited the restaurant several times throughout the year and the food quality here never fail me. Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant at Top of UOB Plaza welcomes Executive Cantonese Chef Hoo Chee Keong with his refined takes on Cantonese Cuisine. Chef Hoo’s reverence for premium fresh seasonal produce is evident as he injects the menu with premium boutique finds of Kanto sea cucumber, black garlic, pacific cod and organice produce. He emphasizes that no MSG used in the restaurant, so the flavours you get are fully and originally derived from the ingredients and the combination of it. This is a good old Cantonese way of cooking. Yen Social located at DUO Galleria is a stylish sister concept of premium yakiniku restaurant Yen Yakiniku. The restaurant is officially opens on 2 July 2021 that offers a combination of spacious comfort for communal dining, Yen Social Butcher Platters, and wallet-friendly premium cuts. Another special highlight is that the restaurant offers its signature in-house dry-aged Wagyu beef for grilling. It is also Singapore’s first yakiniku to introduce whisky dry-aged Wagyu ribeye, using Kavalan single malt whisky from Taiwan.

For this new hotpot restaurant, they uses traditional claypots with yuan yang claypot options. The best part is that it is open till 3am daily. Time for late night supper! Read More
