[M’SIA HOTEL REVIEW] Kota Kinabalu Marriott Hotel 2D1N Stay Review
My first time to Sabah, Kota Kinabalu Malaysia for a 2D1N trip over the weekend. I was searching for a place to stay and decided on Kota Kinabalu Marriott Hotel. This 5-star hotel has a total of 332 rooms with a balcony and its location is close to Centre Point. We paid for less than RM400 per night.
HOW TO GET THERE?
We reached Sabah around 9pm and by the time we cleared the immigration, it was around 9.30pm. We took GRAB, which was RM11 ~S$3.33 from the airport to the hotel. The travelling time was approximately 15-20 minutes.
HOTEL LOCATION
The hotel is located near to the centre of Kota Kinabalu and it is next to a mall. But sadly, there are hardly any shops open in the mall. Hence, you can just skip the mall and travel further to other malls in the central. It is 20 mins drive to Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI), approximately 30-40 mins drive to Mari Mari Cultural Village and 2 hours 15 mins drive to Kundasang (Mount Kinabalu).
THE ROOM
We booked the Guest room with a sea view that comes with a balcony. The room space is 40sqm/430sqft occupied with 1 king-size bed along with the couch and a work desk. There is also a minibar too. The TV is 49in/124cm LED but there are limited choices of TV programmes to watch though.
I am in love with the room space and the bathroom can be separated with a sliding door. The mirror in the bathroom comes with a light touch screen. The bathrooms are also fitted with essential amenities. Not forgetting a bathtub with a sea view and the walk-in closet.
The view from our room is simply amazing. How I wish I can woke with this view everyday.
Complimentary bottled water and the housekeeping did replenish for us each time they did housekeeping.
Complimentary WI-FI is provided. The wi-fi connection was stable and the speed is just nice to watch youtube and NETFLIX. So, kudos for this!
HOTEL FACILITIES
There is an infinity swimming pool and a kid’s pool. The fitness center or we call it gym is available as well.
HOTEL RESTAURANTS
Marriott Kota Kinabalu has four (4) restaurants with different concepts. Stylo, an Asian fusion roof top bars and restaurants with a panoramic view of the South China Sea. We had our cocktails and supper there. We enjoyed the food and drinks here and I would say the price is still reasonable. The service staffs are friendly too!
Next, Big Fish restaurant that specializes in fresh, flavourful seafood and meats. Teppan Table, which is a Japanese restaurant and Kitchen@8 that offers locally inspired cuisine and seafood dishes. Lastly is The Lounge located at the same level as the hotel lobby that offers sample light bites and casual fare.
We did not try the other restaurants because we are out exploring Kota Kinabalu eating local food instead.
PARKING FACILITIES
The hotel provides complimentary private parking for hotel guests.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay and the bed was comfy. Although the website stated the windows are soundproof, we do still hear some noises from the outside. Minimal and bearable for us as we were too tired from outdoor activities. We fall asleep too soundly till the next day. I do wish I can stay longer chilling in my room balcony enjoying the sea view and sunset. If you prefer to stay in the city area, Kota Kinabalu Marriott Hotel may not be the ideal choice. The hotel is approximately 500m away from the town, which we still think is okay. The private car transport is easily accessible so there is no issue with the location. If you cannot get a GRAB, you can ask the hotel to assist you with TAXI. They are more willing to do so.
