[JB EATS] < 佳佳乐 > KAH KAH LOKE RESTAURANT – NOT SO BITTER ANYMORE WITH BITTER GOURD DISHES

Kah Kah Loke Restaurant has been in Johor Bahru town for years and I have been visiting the place with different group of friends. Since it is the same restaurant, I did not blog every-time because the dishes I ordered were almost the same dishes. I know I don’t have creativity but new group of friends each time so it is something NEW for them. My first post of this bitter gourd eating place was in year 2012. It was ages ago so I decided to post my latest again.  So, I introduced this place to few Singapore foodies and mostly everyone loves it. For those that do not take bitter gourds, you might have different perspective about it after trying it here. I did because I used to hate bitter gourds until I visit this place.

Bitter Gourd Soup – RM7.00/10.00/13.00/16.00/20.00
This is the restaurant’s signature dish and if you observe each table has at least a bowl. The bitter gourd soup served with sliced porks that balance off the bitterness of the bitter gourds. I usually drink the soup and only ate few slices of bitter gourds along with the meat to reduce the bitterness taste. Other ingredients include livers are included in the soup.

Deep fried Pork RM4.00 per piece
This is also the signature dish that people will surely order whenever they are here. The Hakka deep fried pork is well marinated and has a crispy outer layer with golden brown colour. The inner meat was tender and juicy. It was served in slices and best to go with a bowl of rice or even as a snack for a beer. Sometimes the sales were too good that it sold out by evening. It happened several times when I went during dinner time.

Bittergourd with Egg RM5.00/9.00/11.00
This is the dish that made me changed my mind about bitter gourds. The scrambled eggs fry together with the bittergourds added in the crunchy bites in it.

Beancurd with Minced Meat RM7.00 / 12.00
Silky tofu with generous minced meat servings.

Salted Egg Yolk with Wings RM12.00 (S)
Need I say more about it? Anything with salted egg yolk won’t go wrong. It was rich and flavourful.

Generally, the serving time here is less than 15 minutes and the staffs are quite fast in taking and processing the order. Everything happened so fast that my friends are amazed on the speed. No wonder the business is so good with non-stop customers flowing in and out especially during lunch and dinner time. Glad that my friends enjoyed the foods here. We had this delectable meal at Taman Sutera outlet. Kah Kah Loke Restaurant is available at other parts of Johor Bahru too.

Our total bill was RM53.00 inclusive of 6% GST, 4 glasses of Lou Han Guo (RM2.50 each) and 2 bowl of small rice (RM1.00 each).
