[JB EATS] Re-Visit Restoran Todak (Orang Asli) At Telok Jawa | Johor Bahru
My last visit to “Restoran Todak” was almost 9 years ago! How time flies! The seafood restaurant is one of the well-known seafood restaurants by Singaporeans who frequent Johor Bahru (JB). There are other seafood restaurants next to it including TKK Seafood Restaurant and Tepi Pantai Restaurant. My family used to frequent TKK Seafood Restaurant but my dad told us that there is price adjustment. So, we decided to choose Todak this time round for our seafood feast. The location is a distance away from JB checkpoint. Thus, it would be best if you are driving. Alternatively, you can GRAB over. The driving distance will take approximately 20-30 minutes.
We were there for Sunday lunch and this is the best timing to visit the seafood restaurant. The reason being is that you can avoid the dinner crowd and the food will taste better. That’s what my dad said because lesser people, the cook will prepare the food better. There is no rushing for orders and affect the food quality.
There is live seafood corner where customers can pick and choose the seafood and decide how to prepare.
Here are our orders:
Japanese Clams-100gsm/RM4.50 – RM22.50
We ordered Japanese clams prepared with Kung Pao sauce. The texture reminds me of escargots.
Slipper Lobster – 100gsm/ RM8 – RM24.00
We had crayfish with cereal crumbs and check out the flesh! Yummy!
Fried Mantou- RM1.00 per pc
We ordered 4 fried buns to dip with the chilli crabs. They will usually serve the buns first and it will take sometime before the crabs are served. Thus, it is better to tell the staff to serve together with the crabs so that it is still piping hot.
Chilli Crab – 100gsm/RM7
Fresh chilli crab and best to dip with mantou.
Salted Egg Crab -100gsm/ RM7
We waited more than 20minutes for this dish and the taste was not fantastic at all. There is no barely any salted egg taste and more of garlicky taste. Although the crab is fresh, the salted egg flavours is such disappointing.
Our total bill was RM198.75~S$67.37 including GST 6% and 2 glass of tap water (RM0.50 each glass) and 1 coconut drink. To be honest, the seafood price here is reasonable and of course cheaper than Singapore. However, the consistency quality of the food needs to be improved. It is a great value in terms of the pricing and currency exchange for Singaporean. The view by the seaside is definitely an experience for city dwellers.
