[JB EATS] MY ‘GALAXY’ MOMENT WITH BY GRACE DESSERT TAMAN PELANGI
My first gastronomy dessert art piece was at ATUM DESSERANT, Hong Kong. When I went jb café hopping with Tony & Hannah last month, we visited the similar concept by BY GRACE SWEET TREATS in Taman Pelangi. BY Grace Dessert Bar is the first dessert shop which has such creativity in Johor Bahru so far. Their second venture is soft serve located at Jalan Trus which is a walking distance from City Square Shopping Mall and JB Checkpoint.
As you step into the dessert shop, the whole place is filled with colours and cute bears as decoration. It is more kids’ friendly ambience filled with cute stuffs decorating the interior. The lighting of the shop is dim and I had difficulties taking photos in the dark. Nevertheless, if you do not have the habit to feed your camera first, the lighting is just perfect for romantic dates.
The dessert menu is displayed on the wall with chalks writing. There are two categories-explosion and molecular. And there are breakdown names on each category to choose from. If you are a first timer, you can gauge what to order from the menu. Thus, it is best to consult the staff for suggestion and explanation. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable which made the dining experience even pleasant.
We ordered ‘Galaxy’ platter RM73.80 to share among us (3 pax). So, in our Galaxy, we chose the elements from ‘explosion’ and ‘molecular’ to customize our ‘Galaxy’.
Once order is confirmed, the owners, Grace and Gio proceed to prepare for us. We got the chance to see them in action. Sorry for the blurry images but this is the best shot I managed to get under limited source of lighting.
Just like ATUM Desserant, there are many different sweet elements are displayed on top of the plating in ‘Galaxy’ concept. On the plating, there are fruits, strawberry sorbet, ice-cream, osmanthus, charcoal crumble and many more. Each individual art piece is nicely design using free hand by the owners. As we sat down and enjoy, I can taste the mixture of sweet, sour and salty flavours. The crumbs and foams are created to enhance the visual and taste buds experience. Also, the molten organic soya explosion lava cake with sea salt ice cream that is included. To be frank, I find the sea salt ice-cream taste is overwhelmed with saltiness. It would be better if the salt content is lesser.
If you need assistance to explain each and every ingredient on the plating, the staff will be there to provide the explanation. However, it would be great if they can work on the menu with detailing on the dessert ingredients.
By Grace also have private dining session from time to time.Do check out their social media platform for the news update. If you are adventurous enough, give them a try. I already look forward for my next visit to try other new molecular desserts and creations.
