WHAT I LEARNT FROM WORKING PART TIME JOBS
I had my first part time job when I was 17 years old. It was just right after my exam and my aunt offered me a job at her furniture shop as a sales assistant. And of course I got excited to get my first pay and used it to buy NOKIA 3310 mobile phone. It was the most popular phone back then. Haha! It was a good training platform for me then.
So what I have learned and gain from my previous part time jobs?
1. Opportunities
Like what I said earlier on. Part time jobs sometimes open a door to new opportunity. It provides a way for individual to search for desired career field. If you are still in doubt on what’s your future job, this would be a platform for you to check out the reality world. And you get on the job training and chance to meet different people to talk to.
2. Independent
Working part time also helps to build individual’s personality and characters. It’s all about shaping a better you. As you speak with your colleagues, bosses or potential clients, you will learn things out of the syllabus. This enhances the personal growth and the way you handle things and be a decision maker on certain circumstances.
3. Grow your Money
Part time jobs allow you to earn extra cash. You can save up the money to purchase the things you want. It’s more like a self-achievement because you are earning your hard-earned money.
4. Experience
Believe it or not but it’s based on true story. Experience is unspoken credentials for jobs. Having said that, get you expose to the reality world to gain the experience and prepare a path for your future career path. This is also the same reason why Singapore internship is included in polytechnics and University. Some employer may not be willing to hire an inexperienced person and with this added advantage in your resume, it will be a bonus.
5. Networking
When you work part time, you get to know different kinds of people. It is an opportunity to widen your social network. Who knows you might need help in future from them? Building up a network takes time and effort too. It’s like a long term investment for your future.
Having list down the advantages, there are also cons as well. The pay is not as high as full time positions and you are tied down with the timing. But I think pros are more than cons because it is a portfolio for individuals’ to build up resume for lucrative job opportunities.Don’t you agree with me?
