Guide for Renounced Malaysian to update Malaysia’s Bank Account Details
Once you renounce your Malaysian Citizenship, there are many other official documents need to be updated with official new status. For example, existing bank and property related documents. I finally went down to Malaysia bank to update my details since it is not allowed to be done via online system.
I was holding Public Bank Berhad Malaysia bank and here are the tips and procedures that you need to take note in the process of updating your details:
Things To Bring:
1. Borang K
2. Certificate of your Citizenship
3. Latest Passport & Current Nationality NRIC
4. Bank Passbook
P/S: For those who opened a bank account before year 2015, you need to bring your passbook along for the updates.
Be sure to get the documents ready before heading down to the bank. Once you get your Queue number, wait patiently for the customer service representative. The officer will provide you with the forms to sign and updates. He/She will then pass to the back-end operation to update. I was told that the updating will take 1-2 working days.
And you are all set to continue using the bank account.
Also, here are things you need to be aware:
1. You need to go back to the same bank branch where you first opened your account to update your particulars. This is applicable for those who have Public Bank Berhad. So, you might need to double check with other banks.
2. In the event your passport is renewed, you will need to head down back to the bank to update because the account details stated the Passport Number for foreigners.
3. In the event you have other bank-related accounts eg. Fund Investment, Gold Investment and it was opened in different branches, you need to go back to that branch for processing.
4. You are unable to make any transactions online if you did not update your particulars under your bank account. This applies to expired debit cards as well.
Hope this helps and do share your experience. It would be nice to update the information here and share with the rest to avoid unnecessary issues.
