[JB EATS] Restoran Kota Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh (哥打正宗肉骨茶)At Taman Sentosa
Restoran Kota Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh located at Taman Sentosa is somehow associated with Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh. For those who are not familiar, Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh is well-known family business bak kut teh near Kota Tinggi. It is owned by my secondary school friend’s father and I used to frequent the place.
The travel distance to Kiang Kee Bak Kut Te h is quite a distance and it takes approximately 1.5 – 2 hours drive from Johor Bahru and subject to traffic. Thus, some said Restoran Kota Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh is the ideal alternative for those who lazy to travel far.
And this restaurant is opened by Kiang Kee’s lady boss’ younger brother.
We were there on a Sunday afternoon and we managed to secure a table before the crowd comes. We were given a queue number and the staff will allocate the table for us accordingly. So be sure you keep a lookout on the queue and follow order accordingly.
Here is a look at the menu.
We ordered the Bak Kut Teh and it is charged according to per person ( RM13.00 per pax ~S$4.41). We ordered 3 pax portions to share among 5 of us. For those who have not tried Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh, you might find this is much better than the others in Johor Bahru. There is a distinctive aromatic herbal when it was served. The taste wise is flavourful but lack of depth flavour though. It is like one dimension taste though.
But still, it is one of the better ones in Johor Bahru in terms of taste and overall selections. The ingredients used are same like the usual ones and you can select pork ribs, pork belly, pork tail or pork leg to add into your dish.
White Pepper Pig’s Maw Soup RM10.00per pax ~S$3.39
We ordered one portion to try and it was ok only. It would be best if the peppery taste is stronger though.
Otah RM12.00 ~S$4.07
The otah served is thicker than usual and you can taste more of the ground fish meat. Not quite a fan of this though.
Preserved vegetables RM3.00 ~S$1.02
You Tiao RM4.00~S$1.36
Fried Beancurd skin RM3.00~S$1.02
Our total bill RM97.00~ S$32.88 inclusive of drinks for 5 pax. The restaurant is located right opposite SK Sri Tebrau School and it is a one way road along Jalan Sutera. The place is packed with locals when we visited the place. If you asked me for bak kut te h recommendation in Johor Bahru, I would choose this over the overwhelming Restoran Soon Huat Bak Kut Te h at Taman Sentosa and Restoran Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Te h located opposite KSL Shopping Mall. My favourites are still Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh and Kulai’s Bak Kut Teh.
Nevertheless, this is my personal preference. I grew up having herbal broth base and used to the old taste at kampong life.
