[TAIWAN EATS] Kao Chi (高記) – Xiao Long Bao & Sheng Jian Bao Restaurant At Taipei
Apart from famous Din Tai Fung in Taipei, you can opt for Kao Chi at Yong Kang Street, Taipei. The restaurant has several outlets across Taipei. But the one in Yong Kang Street seems to be a popular destination because of it’s 3-storey flagship store. The brand is established since 1949 and has been serving Shanghainese dishes. We arrived around 11 plus in the morning and got our queue number from the staff. We waited less than 20 minutes and managed to secure a table at level 3.
Din Tai Fung and Kao Chi shares the similar dishes like Xiao Long Bao and dumplings. And it’s all about preferences. Here are the dishes we ordered:
Shanghai style fried pork buns (10pcs) 220TWD
The must-have dish when you dine in here. Fried pork buns has become their signature dish since 1949 and it is served on a small pan. You can watch chefs in action at the entrance of the restaurant. They use the small pan to fry buns and it can be quite oily though.
Steamed pork Xiao Long Bao (10pcs) 220TWD
This tasted similar to Din Tai Fung Xiao Long Bao for me. Nothing fancy but it is definitely a comfort dish for a cold weather.
Shrimps roll with tofu skin 160TWD
Crispy tofu skin wrapped with shrimps filling in it.
Fried Rice with Shrimps 240TWD
Fragrant fried rice served with fresh shrimps. I would still prefer Din Tai Fung version though.
Dandan Noodles 130TWD
The menu stated spicy but you can request for less spicy if you want to try. The staff will inform the kitchen and to be surprise this Dandan noodles is pretty good. The noodles is QQ and tasty in flavour.
The serving time is within 20minutes and payment to be made after your meal. Please bring your bill to the counter at the ground floor to make payment.
If you are in Taipei, give this place a try over Din Tai Fung. You can have Din Tai Fung in Singapore and Malaysia, so why not try Kao Chi for a change when you are in overseas?
