[JB EATS] UNCLE POU WOK- NOT YOUR TYPICAL UNCLE RESTAURANT

Oh well, Uncle Pou Wok used to be my family favourite dinner place but nowadays we seldom visit them. The reason is because the waiting time during dinner hour can be very long. Their business is booming and they have opened several branches across Johor Bahru including Taman Mount Austin, Taman Impiana Emas, Bukit Indah and Permas Jaya. I brought my foodies friends to the branch at Taman Impiana Emas for dinner.

Here are the standard usual orders that I had usually. This is also their signature dishes as well.

Poached Kampung Chicken (山芭菜园鸡)-RM24.00 (Half size)
Kampung chicken served with the ginger and spring onion sauce. Can you see the beautiful yellow colour of the chicken skin with bits of translucent in it? The chicken meat was tender and flavourful. Some enjoyed it by dipping with the sauce but I enjoyed it as in original taste. The chicken meat has the sweetness taste in it and best to have it with a bowl of white rice.

Salted Egg Bitter Gourd (苦瓜炒咸蛋)- RM9.00 (S)
The bitter gourd here is different from the Kah Kah Loke version. It was prepared in thinly sliced and stir-fried in salted egg yolk, dried shrimps and garlic. The combination of the salted egg yolk and the bitter gourds turned out well. I can’t taste the bitterness in it.
KL Hokkien Mee (吉隆坡福建面)- RM6.00 (S)
I used to have this black hokkien mee during my Uni times at Kuala Lumpur. The thick yellow noodles were savoury with the sweet dark soy sauce. You can taste the lard in it as well. Do not expect there are plenty of ingredients in this plate though. It is more to wok hei zi char style which is a favourite dish for the locals.

Fish Head Steamboat-RM28.00
Some visited Uncle Pou Wok for their fish steamboat. So, we decided to order one to try. In general, the fish head steamboat was not particularly special. Nevertheless, the fish head meat was fresh and tender. There are other ingredients such as yam, vegetables included in the steamboat. You can order it to enjoy with a bowl of white rice. You will never go wrong with steamboat unless the soup base is tasteless.

The total bill was RM72.60 inclusive of 6% GST and a bowl of rice (RM1.50). The serving time was less than 20 minutes and this explains the speed of the staffs.
