[JB EATS] CHICKEN UP Opens In MOUNT AUSTIN | JOHOR BAHRU

Korean fried chicken craze has been trending for the past few years. The craze hits up so well especially after the drama “ My Love from the Star”. Everyone went crazy with the drama and even have LINE stickers for that. I still remember I did download the stickers after the drama. Ok, don’t judge me for that.
Chicken Up has several outlets in Singapore and this is the first Chicken Up under the same management opens in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru. Chicken Up offers fried chicken which is similar to KFC. The difference is that their fried chicken is marinated with different flavours and they offer other dishes as well. Their chicken here is subjected to 12-hour marinating process and deep-fried to seal in the flavours. This process is to ensure that every piece is bursting with succulent juices and tenderness.
Moving on are the dishes we tried during our recent visit to the outlet here in Mount Austin. We arrived at 12.00 noon which is their official opening hours. Customers started to flow in by batches.

Let-It-Snow Squid Topokki / UFO Topokki RM68.00 ~S$21.80
This UFO Topokki comprises soft rice cake and fish cake with spicy chilli paste sauce called gochujang and deep fried breaded squid on top. The sides served in a UFO shaped pan include caramelized kimchi, cheese, corn cheese, kimchi fried rice, steamed egg and grinded padano cheese as garnish. This is rather a huge portion and ideal to share among 3-4 pax. My friend and I couldn’t finish everything by ourselves. And for those who doesn’t take spicy just like me, be prepared the fiery spicy after taste. But it was quite ‘shiok’ after you dipped the ingredients with the cheese.

Haemul-Pajeon/ Seafood and Green Onion Pancake RM26.00 ~S$8.40
The korean pancake that consists of shrimps, squids, chilli pepper, onion and chives prepared with korean batter mix and beef seasoning. The pancake here is crispy and slightly in dark golden colour. If only they can work on the thickness of the pancake, it would be even better.

Signature Wings / Ganjang (Soya) Chicken Wings RM18.00 ~S$5.80
With the price, the signature wings come in 4 pieces. This is their best seller soya chicken wings in Singapore. The soya marinated adds a round flavour to the crisp fried chicken.

Melon Bingsu RM38 ~S$12.20
Signature bingsu served with dry ice effect.

Watermelon Bingsu RM28 ~S$9.00

Chicken Up also offers army stew, noodles and ala-carte dishes which we yet to try. I will check out their army stew for my next visit and it will be at least 4 of us so that we can share the calories.

All prices are applicable to GST but not service charge. The price stated in the menu is inclusive of GST Price.
