[TAIWAN EATS] Fu Hang Dou Jiang [ 阜杭豆漿] – Soyabean & You Tiao For Breakfast in Taipei
When in Taipei, Fu Hang Dou Jiang is one of the must-visit breakfast places for tourists. Fu Hang Dou Jiang is located at Huashan Market (华山市场), a walking distance from Shandao Temple MRT Station (捷运善导寺站) opens at 5.30am daily except on Mondays. Their speciality is their authentic and traditional Taiwanese style breakfast food.
We wanted to wake up at 5.30am to queue but mission failed. We end up heading to the place around 10plus and the queue was in snake-like shape. However, the queue moved pretty fast and we waited for 25 minutes to place our order and a good spot for breakfast.
Here is a snippet of the whole process if you miss it in my instagram post.
The store is actually located at Level 2 but the queue was way back at ground level. Can you imagine the crowd? As we were in line, we observed that most of the customers are tourists from Japan, Malaysia and of course Singapore.
Here are things to take note when you are heading over for breakfast:
1. Seating : The store is located inside a food court. Thus, the seating place is open to public for other stores as well. Its free seating area and you need to secure your own when you arrive at Level 2. You will mostly likely need to share table with strangers.
2. Ordering : While you are in queue and almost reaching the ordering station, there is a menu stand. Take note on the ordering items or the number stated in the menu because the aunty is pretty quick and seems like pressuring you on the order. You basically have no time to think because the queue is moving very fast.
3. Payment : Payment to be made upon ordering at the same station. We ordered the Salty Soya Bean (鹹豆漿 ) which is pretty good savoury dish. It has the chawanmushi texture topped with dough fritters (you tiao).
We also had the traditional oven-baked flat bread wrapped with egg, sweet soybean hot and cold with dough fritters (youtiao). Their flat bread is one of the signature items that you need to order. They use traditional method of bakery and you can see it while you are queuing to order. Their kitchen is open-concept and you can see workers are working hard to churn out the flatbreads and dough fritters (youtiao) .
I would be back if the queue is within 30minutes. I enjoyed dipping the youtiao with the soyabean. The salty soya bean is quite unique in its way which you rarely get it other place. If you are heading to Taipei, do drop by for a hearty Taiwanese traditional breakfast.
You can skip the queue and pre-purchase the ticket from here now. They can arrange the delivery for you. So cool!
