[JB EATS] 5 New Cafes/ Restaurants To Visit in Johor Bahru
Johor Bahru cafes have been going strong recent years. There are new cafes opening almost every month. I don’t even have time to explore them recently. I think it’s time for me to update my café hopping list by foot and café hopping in Mount Austin soon.
Here are the recent new ones that I have visited and yet to visit:
1. Fifty Trees
Fifty Trees café is located within a short distance away from KSL shopping mall. It is located along a row of old shop houses near to Lemon Tree. The café has a rustic old school feel with starry lights at the al-fresco courtyard. I visited the café sometime back over the weekend. They offer café food and drinks including coffee, tea, waffles with ice-cream and savoury dishes. The savoury dishes features fusion western and local delights. It is a nice place to chill and have an afternoon chat with friends over a cup of coffee or dessert. I will probably skip their savoury dishes.

2. Omaya Mount Austin
Omaya started the first outlet in Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru is their 3rd outlet. I visited the place recently and had a very fulfilling meal. The service staffs are trained well and they served us well. I even had a chat with one of the staff while he is grilling the food for us. You can read the full experience from my recent post here.

3. Waku Waku
Waku Waku is just next to Omaya Mount Austin. You can have a filling meal at Omaya and walk to the next door to have dessert. The name Waku Waku reminds me of a Japanese restaurant name instead of dessert shop. The shop has a simple minimalist design interior. It is mostly in white, light brown and also greenery plants as decoration. As we secured out seats, we were given menu and order chit to place order. Once we got fill up the order chit, we paid it at the cashier counter. Our order will be served by the staff. I would recommend trying out their waffle and ice-cream although the price is a bit steep especially for the locals. Their waffle and toppings are handcrafted and created with taste and texture in mind.

4. People & Places
People & Places café opened recently has already gained lot attentions to the locals. Their official opening has yet to announce but the place is already packed with people visiting especially the weekend. I visited the place few weeks ago and it was full house. Their menu does not offer massive choices but definitely the must-have Melbourne brunch is in the list. And the interesting part is that they use Kampong Egg as their egg Benedict which I personally love it. Not forgetting their signature Melbourne hotcake as well.

5. Urban Artisan
Urban Artisan is a local softserve parlour that first started in Penang and expanded their outlets across Malaysia. The brand has finally landed Johor Bahru not long ago ( 29 July 2017) . They serve softserve similar to AquaS at Sydney with attractive flavours and colours. It is also instagram-worthy. The flavours changes every Tuesday. So, watch out their Facebook for latest update. I have yet to try so I can’t share more.
