Korea Fried Chicken craze is spreading fast and Johor Bahru (JB) is picking up too. 22 Dul Dul Korea Fried Chicken is the first Korean style fried chicken that opened in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru recently. It is barely a month old and many has flooded the place to try. We were there on last Sunday (8/11/2015) and queued for 45 minutes just to place our order.
The shop is designed such as industry environment where there is a mixture use of the engineering generators to decorate the space. Once you enter into the shop, the Korea retail snacks and products are along both sides of the path. Thus, customers can also do some shopping other than having Korean-style fried chicken in 22 Dul Dul.
22 Dul Dul opened at 12pm and the queue was up to the door step. We joined the queue and placed an order. Since it was overwhelming, we only allowed to order one flavour out of the five flavours (Garlic, Hot BBQ, Gangjeong, Crispy and Bul Duk) that were available on the menu. Thus, we decided on Garlic flavour.
(Value Set) : Chicken Wings Set – 4pcs (RM10.90)
This value set comes with a drink and wedges just like any fastfood value. The chicken wings are coated with garlic flavour and it was nicely fried with golden brown crispy. It would be even better if the garlic flavour taste stronger.
(Main Course) : Kimchi Fried Rice (RM9.90)
We wanted to try their signature 22 Yopokki (Korean Rice Cake) but it was not available. Thus, we go for their kimchi fried rice. Surprisingly, we enjoyed it. The kimchi taste was not strong and I think they have revised the recipe to suit the local taste bud. I can’t taste the spiciness in it.
Overall, I think still worth trying it provided no queue. It would be best either to go the moment they starts operation otherwise wait for the hype to tie down. There are still hiccups here and there on their operations.
The waiting time for the foods to be serve was approximately another 45 minutes which was way too long. Most of the tables were still waiting for their foods to serve when we were queuing. Thus,we decided to hop to other place before turning back to collect the food. We glad we did it as we returned after an hour, the foods are ready. It was by then 1pm and they were experiencing high traffic at that point of time. Those customers who just joined the queue were ask to leave first and come back after 2 hours as their kitchen is unable to cope the order.
I could see that the F&B in Mount Austin is booming as more restaurants are opening at the area. Stay tuned for my next post on another new addition F&B in Mount Austin as well.
