The Johor Bahru (JB) customs traffic are getting worst nowadays with people flocking in to eat and shop. If you are not driving and goes JB by foot, you can read my JB Food Guide By Foot. This time round, I ventured into Mount Austin as there are few new cafes opening since October last month. Here are my compilation cafes and fastfoods that you guess can try when you are driving to that area:-
1. Creamery Boutique Ice-Cream
I blogged about this place previously but due to the migration issue, the post was gone. Anyway, Creamery Boutique Ice-creams is all the way from Creamery Company Limited, Bangkok and JB is under their franchise outlet. They serves brownies and lavas which are prepared on the spot with their homemade ice-cream. I tried the Guinness Stout Ice-cream flavour with the chocolate lava RM15.90 (S$5.30). 2. Café De Flore
The café was opened around July this year and it is located at the new shop lots called Little Paris at Mount Austin. The café designs are inspired by Café De Flore in Paris with all the flowers and plants at the outdoor seating and Paris decoration for indoor seating. They do serve savoury and cakes but it was not up my expectation. Nevertheless, the places is good for photo taking and chill out places with a group of friends.

3. Dream Café
Yuzu Drink
Dream Cafe is inspired with the in-flight theme where the interior layout is designed exactly like in the flight. The cafe offers western cuisine and no pork no lard dishes.I went once and I think there is a room of improvement in terms of food and services.

4. Espresso Lab (CLOSED)
Espresso Lab has outlets in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and there is one in Johor Bahru too. They serve pretty decent coffee and savoury foods are available too. I enjoyed the spacious design of the café.

gCafe is a short distance away from 8 Days Hotel in Mount Austin. I have not visited the place yet but the huge signage caught my attention whenever I drove pass the road. The café serves western cuisines and chocolate lava cake are available. If you are looking for savoury dishes, you might want to give it a try.

6. Just Want Coffee Factory 30
JWC is well-known with its different theme cafes in JB. Just Want Coffee Factory 30 is one of them and the spacious factory café has been used for proposal stage as well. This outlet has 2 storey highs and bar counters available for customers to watch baristas on action. JWC serves brunch menus, desserts and coffees. I always order Rose Latte whenever I visit JWC outlet.

7. M2Escape

This is also a month old café that was well-received among youngsters due to the café theme. If you love Disney productions cartoons characters, you wouldn’t want to miss this place. It has received overwhelming responses and too cute not to be miss. The cutleries and plating’s are all in the cartoon characters. If you ask me about the food wise, I have yet to try.

8. Oh Ice Cream Projects
I tried this first at their first outlet in KSL Shopping Mall. This ice-cream parlour has an Instagram-worthy desserts that blow you away. However, I tried their ice-cream before and find that the ice-cream taste is not creamery and flavourful. Their outlet here extended their desserts choices to shibuya toast too. You will not miss this eye-catching desserts and their apple green colour shop along the shophouses.

9. Sangkaya Mount Austin
Finally, it expanded their first store in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru end October last month. So, I finally visited the place last Sunday (8/11/2015) with other foodies. The outlet has a spacious indoor and outdoor seating for customers to enjoy. Orders and payments are made at the counter. We ordered their signature RM9.90 and you can read the full post here.

10. 22 Korea Fried Chicken Factory
Korea hype is still trending hot and this 22 Korea Fried Chicken Factory came on time. They just started their business for less than a month and there are queue the moment they start operation. This fastfood korea-style fried chicken cum mini mart is located at the new shop lots near Austin Height Resort & Golf. I like their kimchi fried rice and hope to try other flavours for my next visit. We are only allowed to try one flavour when we ordered the other day.Read the full post here .

11.Atlas Coffee Embassy
Located at the same stretch as U-Desserts, Atlas Coffee Embassy is known with its all day brunch menu. The white theme interior with warm lights and wooden furniture brings out the simplicity and cosy moment of the café. The café was opened by JH Yee, 2012 Malaysian Barista Champion and TimeOut KL Food Personality. Thus, explains the aromatic coffee smell as you step into the café. As for their foods selection, there are standard brunch menu on the list and there is also an option where customers can select their choice of items for their breakfast set from the order chit. There is no service charge applicable. Thus, customers are required to order and make payment at the cashier counter. The foods will be served by the service staff then.

12.CoolQ Café
CoolQ which is located between Espresso Lab & Creamery Boutique was opened on 8 March 2016. We only noticed this shop when we were walking from Espresso Lab to Creamery for dessert. Thus, we decided to give a try. The café serves Italian ice-creams (soft serve and gelato) and some local savoury dishes. Most customers who visited the café will order their Taiyaki. Taiyaki is a kind of Japanese fish-shaped cake served with soft serve. We tried the Cool Fishy with mix of vanilla and chocolate soft serve RM7.90.

13.Chapter 1
Chapter 1 café has in the area for quite sometime. They are known with their savoury dishes especially their pasta. However, their pasta is only available from 5pm onwards. Other than savoury dishes to explore, they also serve brunch and toasts desserts as well. As for the interior, it is quite cosy with yellow lightings on.

14. JuiceBox
JuiceBox located at Sunway College Johor Bahru is the latest addition in Mount Austin. This new venture is the same people behind Creamery Boutique Ice-cream that decided to start living a healthier lifestyle and raw juice movement. JuiceBox specialize in cold pressed juices that does not have any processing. They uses pure fruits and vegetables that are freshly squeezed daily. Each bottle is selling at RM5.90/300ml bottle. They also provide delivery services with minimum purchase around Johor Bahru.

15. Bubble EGG
Bubble EGG offer the bubble waffles that is quite similar with Hvala Waffle in Singapore and Oddies Foodies in Hong Kong. So, JB we have Bubble Egg spotted at Mount Austin. With RM9.90, you get the egg waffle topped with ice-cream, pocky sticks, marshmallows, rainbow sprinkles and drizzle with chocolate syrup. We had difficulties finding it because we thought it is a shop but It is just a stall next to mamak restaurant called Kassim.
Do note that there is no seating place unless you are going to have mamak food at Kassim. It’s a small kiosk for takeaway only.

16.Hokkaido Ice-cream Puff
I saw the photogenic ice-cream puff posted on Facebook feed and decided to check them out. The Hokkaido Ice-cream puff is spotted at Mount Austin few weeks ago. With RM3.80 per piece, you get to enjoy a scope of your ice-cream flavour with the hokkaido puff. If you ask me if it is nice? I don’t really recommend to try it. The ice-cream tasted like the ones you usually have at steamboat. The after steamboat dessert ice-cream taste. I took the first bite and was disappointed. My cousins also have the same reaction.

17. The Hare by Sugar On Top
Sugar On Top did it again! With the recent opening at Taman Sutera, they expand their cafe to Mount Austin with The Hare concept. With a large hare art right outside the wall of the cafe, it is hard not to be notice when you drive past. As compared with the other outlets, this cafe interior has the brighter and prettier looking theme. However, it is sad to said that we are quite disappointed with the service. The waiting time for approximately 45 minutes for the food to arrive. And WIFI is not accessible at all due to overload of people using it. So irony!

18. Fruitnity Plus (CLOSED)
I visited Fruitnity first cafe at Taman Perling and they have opened another outlet at Mount Austin called Fruitnity Plus. Fruitnity serves fresh fruit ice-creams and cold pressed juices. They also offers breakfast brunch at the outlet here in Mount Austin.So, now you can enjoy sweet and savoury foods here at one go.

20. Diagon Alley Malaysia
Finally visited this cafe which is located next to 22 Korea Fried Chicken Factory. Diagon Alley is a brand from Taiwan that sells bubble tea and drinks. The cafe is currently trending their special edition drinks- Northen lights and Morning Sunshine drink. The Northen Light drink include butterfly pea flower, apple vinegar and grape juice. As for the Morning Sunshine drink, it has the mango and butterfly pea flower in it. Love the drink colours!

21. Once Upon a Time
Once Upon a Time Cafe has opened few years back and recently revamped the whole place in pink theme. A fantasy and dreamy theme cafe with several spots for #ootd shots. There is also a mini garden outside the cafe for photo taking. I would suggest here for some nice shots but not the food though.

22. Chicken Up
Chicken Up has several outlets in Singapore and this is the first Chicken Up under the same management opens in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru. Chicken Up offers fried chicken which is similar to KFC. The difference is that their fried chicken is marinated with different flavours and they offer other dishes as well. Their chicken here is subjected to 12-hour marinating process and deep-fried to seal in the flavours. This process is to ensure that every piece is bursting with succulent juices and tenderness.

23. Juseu Juice
Not your usual fresh fruit juice in Juseu Juice. They offers crafted fresh fruit juices and healthy smoothies according to customers’ pick. There are a puzzle counter with different fruits/ vegetables labelled on individual holder. Customer can pick the flavours and put it into the spade-like holder and placed it onto the scanner at the counter. The system will automatically detect the chosen flavour and calories count. It is all about mix and match concoctions here in Juseu Juice.

24. Tsujiri
The first Tsujiri Tea Brand opens it’s first outlet in Malaysia on 20 February 2016 at Damansara Uptown Petaling Jaya. Fast forward one year later the brand has finally expanded to Johor Bahru. Tsujiri is originates from Kyoto Japan is a tea house outlet known for its green tea / matcha product series.
My usual order would be their matcha soft serve whenever I passed by the outlet in Singapore. I am glad that it is available in Johor Bahru starting from 28 October 2017 onwards.

25. 早尚好 Good Morning Food Truck
As the Food Truck has been trending lately, here is one newly setup food truck (December 2017) called Good Morning Food Truck at Mount Austin. Expect to have hearty breakfast toast bread that comes with a number of choices and coffee.Their toasts are selling at RM7.90 ~S$2.63 and the choices include signature fried pork chop, chicken and even pumpkin. What makes their toast different is that the sauces used are all in-house made. There’s even a spread of peanut butter in it.They have opened a cafe at Spring Labs recently.

26. Bloom by MokMok
Bloom by MokMok is the latest café addition in Mount Austin. This folks behind this instagram-worthy café is the same folks behind Mok Mok Brunch & Bistro. However, the concept here focus on flowery and greenery façade, which makes the space with whimsical feeling. The café incorporates green collaboration with eco-champions Folo Farms and WoodWerkz. This is definitely a fresh concept in Johor Bahru. I have yet to visit the place but here is the exterior and interior shot of the café courtesy of weeatfish . I will update more after my visit.

27. Homibing Ground
Homibing Ground has relocated from Permas Jaya to Taman Mount Austin. It is a franchise Korean brand dessert shop that offers bingsu and ala-carte desserts. You can read the full details during my visit to their previous store here.
