[SG EATS] Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant – 2nd Outlet at Duo Galleria

Following the success of Man Man Unagi Japanese Restaurant at 1 Keong Saik Road, Chef Teppei Yamashita is opening 2nd outlet at Duo Galleria. If you have not heard of this Singapore Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant, Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant is so famous that the average queue is at least an hour to two. I haven’t got the chance to try yet because the queue is forever long.

Finally got the chance to try it at this new outlet at Duo Galleria, which is a short walking distance from exit D of Bugis MRT Station. The restaurant is located next to Tono Cevicheria.

The restaurant space of this new place is also limited. There are approximately 22 seats available if I calculated correctly. Here’s a shot of the restaurant interior.

Moving on is the menu. Man Man’s menu is all about Unagi of course.
So, what is the difference between Man Man in Keong Saik Road and Man Man in Duo Galleria?
1.) Customers get to watch the live unagi being cut and grilled at Man Man Keong Saik Road only. The new outlet only showcases the grilling process.

2. ) Exclusively available in Duo is the DUO Hitsumabushi S$39.40+ ( 50% Kabayaki –Marinated & 50% Shirayaki-Boiled and Seasoned with Salt.

DUO Hitsumabushi Set that comes with the wasabi, seasonings, soup and dashi stock

Apart from this, check out this DOUBLE Layer Hitsumabushi S$71.50+ ! As we thought the Unagi is overloaded on the top layer, we realized that there is another layer of unagi at the bottom as well.

Unagi Bone Crackers

Umaki

We also ordered ala-carte dishes such as the Umaki S$14.10+ (Unagi wrapped with egg roll), Unagi Bone Crackers S$6.60+ and Kimoyaki S$10.80+ (Unagi liver). The Unagi Bone Crackers and Kimoyaki are best to enjoy with sake or beer. It is considered snacks for alcohol!

So, what is hitsumabushi?
I went to google and found out that there are 3 steps to enjoy it.
Step 1: Unagi with Rice
Step 2 : Unagi with seasonings of wasabi, nori seaweed and spring onions
Step 3 : Pour the dashi (soup stock) into the bowl of the remaining unagi and rice and mix it to become ochazuke. This is my favourite!

Ochazuke-style

I will definitely be back again to satisfy my Unagi cravings. It is the best unagi that I ever tried so far. I just want to keep having it! The grilling technique and also the savoury sauces are the key ingredients for the unagi. If there is only thing that I think can be improve is the aircon and the ventilation of the restaurant.
