Parkroyal on Kitchener Road is back with its Chinese New Year buffet at Spice Brasserie.I was invited along with other foodies for the tasting session. Other than buffet spread this year (2016), Executive Chef Low Hoe Kiat created Fivefold Fortune Set (五福临门) to spread good fortune with each dish symbolising a blessing for the New Year.
So, what is in the Fivefold Fortune Set?
1. Crispy Baby Crab Yu Sheng with Passion Fruit and Plum Sauce

Toss in Abundance with Cripsy Baby Crab Yu Sheng and drizzled with passion fruit and plum sauce. Raw fish is not included in this year due to the recent raw fish issue but diners still can enjoy the fresh salmon sashimi from the buffet counter. As for the sauce, the combination of passionfruit and plum sauce enhance the zest flavours to the yusheng. And not forgetting the crunchy crispy baby crab and crackers that give extra twist in it.

2. Prosperity Pot

Prosperity Pot which is commonly known as Pen Cai (盆菜) is definitely one of the must have dish in Chinese New Year. The pen cai here serves with juicy abalone, mushrooms, sea cucumbers and scallops. There are also slices of roasted pork hidden deep inside the thick-gravy. So, be sure you finish up the whole pot to enjoy the delicacies.

3. Lobster in Superior Stock

Well-wishes for Longevity lie in the Lobster in Superior Stock. The lobster meat with shell are cut into smaller sizes are served on the table. The meat texture was sweet and flavourful after soaking into the superior stock.

4. Abalone Glutinous Rice with Liver Sausage

This dish represents Family Unity where it reminiscent of traditional home-cooked meals. It would be best if the abalone size is bigger though. Nevertheless, the overall taste is fragrance and delightful.

5. Pumpkin Purée with Almond Flakes Dessert

Lastly, we have the pumpkin puree with almond flakes dessert served in cold to mark a sweet beginnings. I totally enjoyed the sweetness taste of the puree and the crunchy bites from the almond flakes.

Buffets are the best solution to cater big group of people with different taste preferences. Thus, if you are opting for buffet during Chinese New Year, Spice Brasserie is one of the choices. Dining promotion for selected Credit Cards is available as well.
