JB Café hopping has been trending but we do still search for comfort foods option whenever we cross the causeway. Roti Canai Bukit Chagar is one of the locals’ favourite breakfast place for many years. And do you know it is just few minutes walk away from the JB Custom? Roti Canai Bukit Chagar only operates in the morning from 6:00AM till 11:00AM. We were there around 8.45am on a Sunday morning.

Roti Canai which is also known as Roti Kosong and Roti Prata is a type of flatbread that often seen in Mamak Stalls especially in Malaysia. Different stalls sell it in different texture. I personally prefer crispy outer layer and soft inner layers. So for this stall, they have it the same way except that their Roti Canai is thicker.

If you are first time here just like me, secure a table seat first. Then ask one of your partners to stay at the seat to ‘jaga’ and wait for a lady to approach for drinks order. The roti canai ordering is by self-service. You will see people queuing patiently at the stall where you can see the making process of roti canai on the spot. There will be a lady standing there to get the order and receive payment. So, take the amount of roti canai you need and pay her on the spot. If you want to have Roti Telur (roti canai with egg), the lady will noted down and call you once it is ready. There is a big pot of dhal next to the stall for customers to take. All you need to do is to pay RM1.00 ~ S$0.30 for 1piece of Roti Canai.

Roti Canai to go with Sugar

There are different ways to enjoy Roti Canai. Some like it to go with sugar. This reminds me of my childhood favourite way of eating. But it taste good with dhal too. If only the dhal here is thicker and richer, it would be perfect. The roti canai here has the crispy later with soft and airy in the inner part that pretty satisfying. And their roti canai is not too oily too.
It was a satisfying breakfast and we walked back to JB custom for our next stop at Jalan Tan Hiok Nee. We only spent RM12.90 inclusive of drinks (6 pieces of roti canai) which is approximately S$4.40 for 3 pax.
