[JB EATS] MY ONE HOUR LIFETIME EXPERIENCE WITH DINNER IN THE SKY PUTERI HARBOUR JOHOR BAHRU
Dinner in the Sky Malaysia started first in Kuala Lumpur last year and finally here in Johor from 20 May till 19 June 2016. Johor is the 3rd stop in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur was first followed by Penang). Dinner in the Sky is a dining concept that was well-known across the world since it started in Brussels, Belgium in 2006. And the chosen location in Johor Bahru is at Puteri Harbour, Nusajaya Malaysia.
And the day has finally come! My hands and legs are shivering like mad the moment I arrived the location. Nevertheless, it was an unforgettable experience at least for now. Fancy dining 150 feet above ground and with the view of Puteri Harbour was certainly a memorable one. Upon arriving, we are greeted at the reception counter on the indemnity letter to sign on. There are lockers available to keep our belongings.
So our time slot was 7.00pm but the earlier session was delayed so we ended up around 7.15am instead. Too bad we missed the golden hour where we can have a sunset panorama view from the top. Each of us was assisted by the safety crew to ensure that we are strapped in tightly at all times. The chair does swivel and there is a footrest in front of our chair to rest our feet. It was kinda scary at first but soon I get addicted swing the chair when I am high above.
The suspended platform off a crane is able to hold a capacity of 22 pax seated in rotating seats (180 degrees) around the table bar. It was secured by a system of belts in 6 anchor points. There are 5 people in the middle of the table which include the chef from Tosca Trattoria Italiana of Doubletree by Hilton, Johor Bahru and safety crews.
To be frank, I was shivering like mad the moment I was secured with the belts. But the moment it takes off and going up to the sky, I cannot feel anything at all. It was safe and secured. The crane and crew were tested and approved by TUV SUD, a renowned and well-respected German safety testing organization. Thus, everyone can assure the safety measures are taken into serious account.
When we are up above, the atmosphere was lively with music on and everyone was reaching out their phones and camera to start selfie and taking photos from every angle. The chef and the safety crews were starting to prepare the foods for us. It was a 4- course meal for an hour. So, the one hour time was limited. Thus, the foods are pre- prepared and they only plate it on the spot.
We started with appertizer- white anchovies dressed with balsamic jelly served with marinated wild strawberries, yellow frisee lettuce and feta goat cheese.
Next, we had basil and green pea soup served with rich truffle cream.
As for mains, I had the Australia Lamp Rump while the rest had wagyu beef cheek served with gaufrette potato and baby spinach. Both meats are tenderly juicy and flavourful. The chef also will top up the gravy for us upon request.
We ended with a sweet note dessert and slowly descent down. The creamy cherry tiramisu was my favourite of all! And ended with a secret pink pill at the side which is actually a popping candy. So cool right?
After experiencing the whole process, I find that the price was quite steep and with the amount money paid, I can have a enjoyable fine dining cuisine in Michellin restaurant. Wines, Champagnes and beers are excluded in the package of RM699++ . It would be best to at least include a glass of wine to complete the package.
This is how I spent my one hour for a four-course meal which ended like a slip of second. I guess we are all busy taking photos and grab the opportunity not to miss any shot! It was indeed a sweet experience for me on this 29 May 2016.
Here’s the snippets on what was happening up above! Pardon my shaking hands when I did the video
