The latest ramen fad in Japan, Tori Paitan Ramen (creamy chicken soup ramen) has arrived in Singapore. Located within Ramen Champion, Torimaru, helmed by Chef Takano Koji, offers creamy chicken soup ramen boiled from 5 different kind of chicken parts and 5 varieties of vegetables.

Chef Takano Koji, has weathered intense training under the founder of Menya Koji Group, Chef Koji Tashiro. After experimenting with 10 kinds of noodles, he liaised with a supplier in Hokkaido to create his own rendition of ramen noodles to complement his creamy chicken soup. The chicken broth is not only rich in collagen, but also contains no pork or lard.
An assortment of ramen are available on the launch menu, namely, Original Paitan, Shoyu Paitan, Spicy Paitan and Paitan Tsukemen (dipping noodles). The Chef plans to introduce other paiten creations such as Miso Paitan, Vegetables Paitan and other kinds of dipping noodles over the next few months.

Standard toppings in the current 4 ramen options include Chicken Breast Chashu, Homemade Chicken Meatballs, Seasoned soft boiled eggs, Japanese Leek and Dried Seaweed.
During the tasting, we had the opportunity to sample Chef’s Takano Koji’s signature Special Chicken Ramen ($16), and Special Chicken Tsukemen ($16). My dining companions and I prefer the latter, where thick, chilled, springy white noodles, is married with a flavorsome broth. Upon you’re done with the noodles, add some dashi (soup) to the broth to lighted up the flavours before drinking up every drop. Yumsss, so delish, yet not overly rich.

Apart from ramen dishes, Torimaru also offers refreshing Chicken Salad ($8.80) with sesame dressing and Chicken Nanban ($8) which is essentially fried chicken blanketed in homemade tartar dressing. I personally found them, rather pedestrian.
