[SG EATS] TANG RESTAURANT & BAR AT KEONG SAIK ROAD
Tang Restaurant & Bar was relocated few units away from their previous location along Keong Saik Road. The restaurant offers a traditional and authentic Sichuan steamboat with MSG free. And their relocated restaurant size is compact and there are only 2 VIP rooms that can be combining into 1 big VIP room. The whole interior decoration is simple and classy.
Let’s see what is so interesting here in Tangs Steamboat Restaurant?
We had two soup base; House Special Soup and Authentic Sichuan Spicy Soup.
A combination of 2 soup base S$21.00++
House Special Soup
Unlike other steamboat / hotpot ( Hai Di Lao http://hazeldiary.com/2015/12/haidilao-hot-pot-313-somerset-orchard/ & Fu Li Men Dou Lao http://hazeldiary.com/2016/01/indulging-the-new-taste-of-fortune-dou-lao-at-fu-lin-men/ ) , I find it bland and light in taste for the first sip. The broth was simmered for eight hours with old hen, pork and fish bones and medicinal herbs. As we add in the ingredients, the soup tasted stronger and sweeter. I pretty much enjoyed the after taste.
Authentic Sichuan Spicy Soup / ‘Mala Soup’
My first impression was ‘OMG, confirm very spicy’ but I was wrong. The spicy level was minimal despite the appearance. If you are a spicy lover, you can request to increase the spicy level for you. Their Sichuan Spicy Soup is made up of 14 types of spices.
As for the ingredients, there are quite a number of choices. We ordered some to try and the staffs are available to serve you. So, all you need to do is to wait for the foods to be cooked and get it from the pot.
Bamboo Shrimp Roll S$18.00++
Shrimp Paste Dome S$14.00++
Homemade Cilantro Meat Balls S$14.00++
Australia Wagyu Striploin S$39.00++ / 200g /S$31.00++/100g
Japanese Momoiro Pork Belly S$27.00++ / 200g / S$15.00++ / 100g
Greens Platter S$11.00++
Mushrooms Platter S$12.00+
Bean Curd Skin S$5.00+
We also tried some of the cooked foods.
Spicy Sichuan Chicken S$22.00+
This is fiery hot for me but I like it because the chicken is crispy fried and cut into smaller pieces. It is quite addictive and I end up digging the palate searching for the hidden chicken meat. This reminds me of the one I had at Lokkee too. But this is much more spicy in flavour.
Sichuan Dandan Noodles S$5.00+
My favourite noodles that have pasta texture alike. And the portion served is quite generous.
Dumplings in Sichuan Sauce S$5.00+
It has faint of spiciness in it but still acceptable for me.
I tried mala soup before and few hours later I will be staying in toilet for quite sometime because my stomach is quite weak with the spiciness intake. But this time round, I was perfectly fine till the next day. Steamboats and hotpots are our all-time favourite as it is a communal activity. While searching for steamboat places, diners will tend to look at the pricing first. Some may find Tangs price is slightly higher as compared with other places though. It is all about individual preference and taste buds. If you prefer a classy and quiet atmosphere to enjoy your steamboat, perhaps this is the place.
Oh and if you want to try out, it would be best to call for reservation due to the seating space constraint.
