Kuro-Obi by Ippudo is officially opened on 13 January 2017 at Marina Bay Sands. I was there for their ramen tasting with fellow foodie. The kiosk is right next to Ippudo’s latest outlet in Singapore. Kuro-Obi which refers to Black Belt in Japanese was first unveiled in New York. Singapore outlet marks Kuro-Obi’s first overseas foray outside of New York.

What so special of Kuro-Obi Singapore?
Kuro-Obi Singapore is Ippudo’s ONLY concept around the world to offer 100% chicken broth- Tori-paitan, a delicate and silky chicken soup base. The ramen is served with slow-cooked chicken chashu in lieu of the traditional pork chashu to accommodate the cultural diversity of Singapore.

The takeaway concept stall offers 4 varieties of ramen with option to add on ingredients.

1. Kuro-Obi S$12.00
Signature ramen serves with an umami egg and three pieces of chicken chashu.

2. Aka-Obi S$10.00
This comes with local flavours topped with spicy shrimp floss. Surprisingly, it is not as spicy as I thought.

3. Cha-Obi S$9.00
Light and clear vegetable broth and filled with vegetables ramen.

4. Shiro-Obi S$8.00
The basic ramen served with creamy soup broth and a slice of chicken chashu. The cheapest ramen on the menu.

Customers are given the order chit to customize their ramen according to individual preferences. You can choose the texture of the noodles, the soup base thickness and also add on ingredients as well.

As for the noodles texture, it is thicker and look similar like the yellow noodles. I wouldn’t mind getting the ramen at this affordable pricing here in Marina Bay Sands though. Plus, the soup broth is concentrated and rich in flavour.
