[SG EATS] Birders 鳥人 At Tras Street | Tanjong Pagar
Birders located at Tras Street is a modern Japanese yakitori and sake bar place to chill out after work. It is owned by actor-turned-entrepreneur Adam Chen. He is Singapore local artiste that appears in Chinese and English drama series if you are wondering. I was invited by Adele to join her for the food tasting session few weeks back.
The place stores extensive sake collection flown in directly from Tokyo, Japan. There is a grilling station where diners get to see the chef in action grilling the skewers.
Adam Chen shared that the food menu is conceptualized by Chef Makoto Deguichi. Ched uses his creative culinary skills to work on the seasonings and toppings. We ordered quite a number of the grilled sticks, yakitori and also trying out their lunch menu set that night. The grilled items are priced from S$3.40 onwards.
My favourite picks are Tsukune S$4.50, Skin S$4.00, Cartilage S$4.00 , Quail Egg S$5.00 and Beef Skirt S$4.50. Other parts of chicken skewers include Heart S$4.00, Liver S$4.00, Breast S$3.50 and Thigh S$3.50 are available as well. Every skewer is marinated and seasoned in different ways. They use salt and pepper, garlic shoyu, miso and spring onions and many more to enhance the flavours of the individual skewers.
Apart from the assortment of grilled skewers, my next favourite is the Umami Corn S$6.00. I love it especially when it is sprinkled with seaweed and gochujang-base sauce to entice the flavours.
Next, we also tried 2 dishes from the lunch menu set that comes with salad, pickles, appetiser and miso soup.
Gyusuji Curry ( Beef tendon with dark curry) S$18.00
This is rather interesting dish that comes with dark curry. It was my first time trying out and it is much spicier with the peppery taste in it. Oh boy… this is indeed value for money!
Chicken Katsu Curry Udon S$15.00
The chicken katsu has rather interesting twist here. There is a hidden molten mentaiko in the fried chicken. It is rather sinful and yet satisfying though! This reminds me of the French Chicken Cordon Bleu concept.
You can experience different kind of dining experience during the day and night time here at Birders. If you are working around the area, be sure to try out their lunch set menu. It is worth the value of the money. The portion is generous and you will definitely leave the place with filling tummy!
