[SG EATS] “Money Money Many Many” Chinese New Year Celebration 2018 At Peony Jade @ Keppel
Living up to expectations of a Michelin Bib Gourmand, Peony Jade @ Keppel promises not to disappoint this Lunar New Year. Our writer, Felicia attended the media tasting recently and continues to read to find out more.
Lohei your new year with Peony Jade as they kick start the celebration with their Poach shaped Flowing Prosperity Gold Rush Yu Sheng. Drizzle with their in-house sauce, and topped with fresh sashimi slices on the “Dog”, you will be barking for another serving of their Yusheng.
The 18 LUXE ingredients Poon Choi blew me away and is thus far the best I have had. With fish maws, abalone, ducks and much more in one dish, this is perfect for a family gathering and if you are a “rice person”, their sauce will be a match in heaven for you. The serving is very generous and if I could, I would take away this and lick it clean. This is easily in one of my top 3 dishes from Peony Jade so far.
“Abundance Wealth” Crispy Angus Beef Brisket with Tamarind Sauce was a surprise to me. The Chef makes use of lotus roots to create crispness, which is not often seen in most places. I really enjoyed the crispness of the “lotus roots chips” matched with beef slices.
“Reaping Prosperity” Australian Fresh Oysters is also one of my favourites this new year. Peony Jade was able to balance the taste of the oysters with the golden skin which got me going for another serving too. I liked the sweet sauce that was present with the oyster, but I wished they had more of it so I could dip my oyster in it.
The “Good Fortune” baked chicken was pretty tender and the taste of black garlic was strongly evident. It’s not bad but maybe because I had the Poon Choi in the beginning, the standards bars was raised pretty high for this dish to make it into my top 3 favourites.
Lastly, it’s my favourite part of every course, DESSERTS!!!
Many of the desserts here at Peony Jade this Lunar New Year, is shaped and designed with the festive mood in mind. You got desserts shaped in Mandarin Oranges, Peaches, and even dogs!
I loved the Mao Shan Wang Nian Gao the most because I am a huge fan of durians and the durian filling was so generous! If you are lucky, you could even taste durian flesh in it! This was my favourite desserts.
Following closely behind, was the Lotus Flower-shaped dessert. It has a flaky, pastry skin texture which was really unexpected as the taste was leaning towards a mochi feel but with the pastry texture. Also, the dog-shaped mochi was a modern twist to the traditional mochi flavours. It was filled with peanut butter and chocolate fillings which remind me of the Reeses bar.
The experience here has been amazing and it’s definitely on my “visit again” list, so should yours too! Usher the Year of The Dog with Peony Jade!
The set course is available from the 31st of January onwards.
Takeaways are available as well. More details are available on their official website.
