[SG EATS] NOX- Dine in the Dark | My First Dining In the Dark Experience
NOX- Dine in the Dark located along Beach Road is a restaurant that offers diners a unique dining experience. Diners will experience dining in the room pitch dark and served by the visually impaired.
NOX has been operating for 5 years and they have recently revamped their menu and introduced locally-inspired cocktails concoctions. The new menu is curated by their new Head Chef Mohammad Shahrom and the cocktails concoctions by new Head Bartender Muhammad Hussien. The refreshed modern European menu focuses on seasonal, quality produce.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, we are greeted by the staff with a smile. We were ushered to the sitting area for us to chill out while waiting for our guide to bring us up. We had amuse bouche followed by cocktails. (Note: cocktail, beer or wine is additional charges). There is a minute game to play recommended by the staff. Do check it out! I wouldn’t want to reveal it! It’s a fun experiment!
Then, we will proceed to lock all our belongings in the locker. We are not allowed to bring anything up. Feeling nervous and excited, we are greeted by our host of the night at the door that leads us up to 2nd floor. We climbed up the stairs holding on each other shoulders and listened carefully to our host to give us clear direction.
Our host guided us with clear instruction in the pitch dark room. It was totally pitched dark and all I can hear is conversations. We waited patiently for our host to serve us and he gave us orientation of what is on our table. He also told us to start and move in a clockwise direction. I find myself enjoying the night without external disturbance. Everyone is very engaged to the conversation instead looking at phones because there is nothing on our table or hands. I think it is good because most of us are always on the phone instead of enjoying the moment.
The whole dinner took 1.5 hours and towards end of the meal, we were given a form to guess what we had. The staff then revealed the answer and we got most of it correct.Yay!
I personally enjoyed the whole dining experience. I really respect the staffs that are visually impaired leading such an independent life with positive vibes. Some of them are blind since birth, vision deteriorated after some time and other situation. Their positivity in life really inspired us.
