Weekend trip across the causeway Johor Bahru is an alternative choice for short gateway holiday for Singaporeans. It is literally a bus away and 5 minutes train ride from Woodlands Train Checkpoint to CIQ JB minus the traffic jam and queuing time. Apart from these, everything is good with the currency of S$1 to RM3 for now.

And I decided to blog about the hotels to stay around the vicinity area within a walking distance to CIQ JB and the malls. With so many malls around the immigration, you no need to travel further for shopping spree. Each mall caters different brands and needs for all including shopping, eateries, massage and groceries.

1. DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Johor Bahru

Located approximately 10-15 minutes walk away from Johor Bahru (JB) custom checkpoint (Sultan Iskandar Building) , JB City Square Mall and KOMTAR JBCC, DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru is established on 1 July 2014. It was previously named Menara Landmark is strategically located at the city centre of Johor Bahru. This 4-star hotel has an outdoor swimming pool on the 13th floor and gym for hotel guests. Indulge in delicacies at their Tosca Italian Trattoria for Italian cuisine, buffet at Makan Kitchen or their te h tarik and nasi lemak at The Food Store. 2. Capri by Fraser

Capri by Fraser situated in Johor Bahru’s downtown core of Bukit Chagar is another option in your hotel list now. The hotel residences just opened few months ago and suitable for family, friends and couple weekend gateway. It is just minutes away from CIQ Johor Bahru and the shopping mall around the vicinity area. 3. Amari Hotel Johor Bahru

5-star Amari Hotel Johor Bahru opened in May 2017 and has a strategic location right opposite Komtar JBCC. This is the nearest hotel from CIQ JB and right before DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru. The hotel offers swimming pool and gym facilities and relaxing spa services to enhance your stay with them. Apart from the standard hotel facilities, there is a hotel library at level 6 where hotel guests can borrow books or use the computer. Dining option is available at Amaya Café and you can explore the eateries at Zenith Mall.

4. The Puteri Pacific Johor Bahru

The Puteri Pacific Johor Bahru located on the heritage row of Jalan Trus has been well-established many years back even when I was a child. It was used to be one of the hotel destination in Johor Bahru until new hotels are opened. The hotel is also physically linked to the Persada Johor International Convention Centre. Thus, most of the hotel guests are mainly business travellers. If you are looking for affordable and tranquil hotel nearby CIQ Johor Bahru, you can consider here. Although the furnishings are not so new anymore, the overall views online are not bad though. The hotel has the standard facilities with international cuisine option at Puteri Café.

For bigger groups or family travels, serviced apartment would be an ideal choice. Suasana Suites is an option for those who wants to stay near to custom. It covers a 52sqm room on level 30. 7. Citrus Hotel Johor Bahru

4-Star Citrus Hotel Johor Bahru is located within a walking distance from JB City Square Mall, It is centrally located within the malls and eateries places like Meldrum Walk. The hotel offers basic amenities at an affordable pricing. It is also near to Jalan Tan Hiok Nee and Galleria Kotaraya shopping complex (previously known as Plaza Kotaraya). For those who need to passport renewal, you will know where I am referring to.

8. Holiday Inn Johor Bahru City Centre (Opening soon)

The cheapest hotel rate starts from S$26.00++ onwards and the price fluctuates depending on demand and season. Apart from the shopping malls, you can also explore cafes and cultural heritage street at Jalan Dhoby and Tan Hiok Nee. Check out my post here.

HOW TO GET TO JOHOR BAHRU
Apart from taking Public Bus ( CW1, CW2, Bus 950 , 170 , 160 ) from designated location, you can purchase train tickets through online for both ways ( SG-JB , JB-SG). However, the tickets are selling like hotcakes and we couldn’t secure the tickets to JB. So, we travelled early Saturday morning and back by train.
You can book your train ticket thru KTM or Easybook. The train ticket fare (SG-JB) is S$5.00 and (JB-SG) is RM5.00.
Alternatively, book a private city transfer from Singapore to Johor Bahru using Klook. This is best solution if you are travelling with family or big groups.
