[SG EATS] Chalerm Thai Restaurant At Arcade| The Capitol Kempinski
Chalerm Thai is the latest addition at Arcarde @ The Capitol Kempinski. The restaurant is named after the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre in Bangkok, first opened in 1933. The restaurant is easily identified by the bright yellow canopy, wooden dividers and rattan furniture.
I was invited for a food tasting session recently and here are the dishes I tried.
Yum Pan Boong Krob (deep-fried crispy morning glory with chilli sauce dip) S$8.00++
It is an addictive snack best to pair with a bottle of beer or an appetizer before the mains. The dish is lightly battered and deep-friend flowers and leaves that you couldn’t stop at the first bite.
Peek Gai Tord Ta Kra (deep-fried lemongrass chicken wings)
Tasty deep-fried lemongrass chicken wings.
Kor Moo Yang (grilled marinated pork neck with spicy lime sauce) S$18.00++
Nicely grilled marinated pork neck that goes well with the spicy lime sauce.
Tom Yum Goong (Thai Seafood Tom Yum Soup) S$15.00++
This bowl of hot, sour and spicy soup served with seafood ingredients like mussels, fish, prawns, clams and squid. It would be great if it has more subtle flavours.
Khao Phad Sapoarod (pineapple fried rice) S$15.00++
This dish is beautifully plated in a pineapple shell with generous portion of rice, cashews for the crunch and shrimp floss. Classic Thai dish that is a must-have dish in Thai menu.
Phad Thai Kung (Thai stir-fried rice noodles) S$14.00++
Another Thai classic dish listed in the menu. The stir-fried rice noodles served with fresh prawns. It is a mix combination of sweet, sour and salt flavours all in one for this dish.
Phu Nim Phad Pong Karee (soft shell crab with yellow curry) S$20.00++
This is my favourite dish. Deep-fried soft shell crabs coated with yellow curry sauce. It tasted creamy and with light sweetness flavour. I even requested for white rice to go with the sauce.
Kao Neow Muang (mango sticky rice) S$10.00++
Warm sticky rice served with rich coconut milk, crunchy roasted soybeans and mango slices.
Overall the dishes are more of hits and misses scenario. The restaurant offers decent Thai cuisines and affordable pricing around the vicinity area. If you are craving for comfort Thai food and nearby, check them out.
