La Strada Ristorante located at Shaw Centre, Orchard is one of my birthday celebration choices this year. The Italian restaurant is under Les Amis Group was reopened in 2018 after a makeover. The restaurant is located next to Mui Kee Congee, the Hong Kong famous congee place. This is to give you an idea where is the restaurant located. We made reservation and stated that it is for birthday celebration. The staff called to confirm the reservation and informed us that they will provide a complimentary dessert (our choice) with the word “Happy Birthday”.
Most restaurants served digitalized menu by scanning the barcode on the table. This applies here too. Full menu is available on their website here.
Mud Crab Gratin S$98.00++
This is on their seasonal menu or they called it off-menu dish. This Sri Lankan mud crab gratin in hollandaise served with 3 garlic breads for us. We were told that we can ask for more bread though. The sweetness of the crab meat with the rich, creamy sauce definitely a good combination and we savoured every bits of it. But for the pricing wise, we think it is quite steep though.
Chitarra alla carbonara S$34.00++
Their signature dish served with truffle butter, parmigiano, ham crumble and slow-cooked egg. It is a perfect marriage of all ingredients after mixing everything together. The egg really plays a major role in the formation of the silky sauce and creaminess element into it. I finally understand why it is the signature dish here.Simple yet beautifully done dish. Yu,,y!
Orata S$40.00++
Broiled Mediterranean seabream served with eggplant caponata. The Sicilian sweet and sour juicy flavour goes well with the seabream’s meaty texture. We totally love it and my friend said she made a right choice to order this.
Tiramisu S$16.00++
Tiramisu is available in traditional or limoncello option. We chose the traditional tiramisu for the dessert cum “birthday cake”. The tiramisu here served in the form of a large in a round drop shape. It is not picture-worthy but it is definitely good in taste.
Our total bill was S$221.28 inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% GST. The overall dining experience was pleasant. The service staffs were attentive and they were very prompt with their services such as refilling our water and constantly checking on our table. I would be interested to try out their 3-course lunch set menu priced at S$42.00++ that sound pretty affordable.
