[SG EATS] The Original Vadai At Golden Mile Food Centre
The Original Vadai used to be one of the popular stalls at pasar malams. The stall has then found two permanent place to sell their vadai and other deep-fried snacks. I went to their first outlet at Golden Mile Food Centre recently. They are also available at Joo Chiat place if you are nearby. Based on online reviews and information, Mr Suriyah is the second-generation owner. There are also the only vadai shop to be Halal-Certified in Singapore.
I was there around 3 plus on a Sunday afternoon and there was a queue. And of course, I joined the queue and queued for approximately 20 minutes.
The menu is pasted right at the ordering counter wall. Order and payment to be done at the same time.
Once order is placed, wait patiently for them to pack your orders. I ordered 3 Prawn Vadai and Ikan Bilis Vadai each to share with my sisters. Both are priced at S$1.00 each.
My vadai orders come with complimentary raw green chilli. The vadai was light, soft and chewy in texture. The prawn on the fritter was quite big for S$1 and surprisingly fresh and juicy.
As for the ikan bilis, look at the generous ikan bilis on the vadai! It is tasty, crispy, and crunchy in texture. We loved it and it has the distinctive fragrance. The whole car is full of the smell!
The stall also offers other sinful snacks such as skewers and other vadai flavours like chocolate vadai. If you are adventurous, check out their other flavours. Some said their skewers are not bad too. Let me know if you have tried it.
