[SG EATS] 8-course Lunch Omakase S$68++ at Unkai Sushi Singapore – Affordable Omakase in Orchard Singapore
Omakase tends to be premium and expensive due to not only the many courses that are served, but also due to the quality of the ingredients that determined the pricing. My recent visit to Unkai Sushi Singapore located in Orchard Rendezvous Hotel does not have to break the bank. Helmed by Chef Eugene Lam, he is offering a Lunch Omakase priced at S$68.00++ per pax and other Omakase menu from S$88.00++.
Chef Eugene, aged 31 years old spent more than a decade honing his skills under the tutelage of great sushi masters. He was previously worked at Hide Yamamoto, Ashino, and Sushi Mieda before moving on his personal take on sushi at Unkai Sushi Singapore.
Our Lunch Omakase offers 8-courses that consists of:
Appetiser
Two seasonal appetizers to kick start our omakase journey.
Sashimi
Two kinds of fresh seasonal sashimi. We had Akami (lean tuna) and sea bream sashimi.
Chawanmushi of the week
Chawanmushi topped with ikura.
Gindara (sablefish) Miso Yaki
We thought it was cod fish, but it turned out to be sablefish, which looks alike. Buttery taste and flaky texture which give u the similar taste of codfish.
Sushi
Seasonal sushi and we had Hotate, Kinmedai and Otoro (tuna belly).
Mini Chirashi Don
Instead of getting the mini chirashi don, we tried the Magic Bowl with additional top-up of S$38.00. Beautifully plated and photogenic bowl that consists of uni, ikura, abalone liver sauce and negitoro. The magic bowl is made from the day’s specials, and we were advise to mix it all up before indulging. Every mouthful is rich, creamy and an interesting mixture of flavours. Umami indeed! Best to pair with sake!
Miso Soup
The standard miso soup that we usually had in Japanese restaurants.
Dessert
We ended with a scoop of matcha ice-cream. Lovely!
@hazeldiary_ 8-course Lunch Omakase here does not have to break your bank. Affordable and worth a try! #unkaisushi #unkaisushisingapore ♬ ファジーネーブル
Overall was worth it considering the ingredients served for price at S$68++ per pax. We also topped up S$48++ for sake pairing. This is optional but my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice drink. There are sake and beer options on the menu.
Alternatively, you can also try their lunch specials. The lunch set comes with a salad, miso soup, chawan mushi, main course and dessert starting from S$26.00++. Mains include Pork Cheek Rice Bowl, Bara Chirashi Don, Kaisen Don, A5 Kagoshima Wagyu Don and more.
Recommend making reservation before heading over as this is a 30-seater restaurant. The seats are limited.
