[JB EATS] Kim Lian Kee Restaurant 金莲记福建面美食馆 is Now in Mid Valley Southkey Johor Bahru
Kim Lian Kee Restaurant ( 金莲记福建面美食馆 ) located at in Petaling Street Market has over 100 years old. It is known as one of the best hokkien mee joints in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by the locals. The brand itself has finally opened a branch here in Mid Valley Southkey Johor Bahru recently.
My friend and I visited the newly open shopping mall over the weekend and decided to give it a try. We were there before 7pm and the queue has not formed yet. We are lucky to secure a table within minutes.
However, the staff will request us to order first before we are seated. That’s the rule here in Kim Lian Kee Restaurant, Johor Bahru.
The waiting time was approximately 20-30minutes for our dishes to be served. We ordered the signature Kim Lian Kee Black Hokkien Mee (A001) RM15.90 ~S$5.30. There is only one standard size of serving for this dish. The Hokkien Mee is cooked and stir-fried with high heat over an open flame and doused in black soy sauce. It comes with fried pork lard that makes the dish even tastier. Although it tasted savoury and nicer as compared with other KL Hokkien mee I tried in JB, I still feel that there is no wok hei taste though. The dish is completed with few pieces of cabbages and prawns only. Simple comforting dish I would say.
We also ordered the Claypot Lou Shu Fen RM17.50~S$5.83 to try. The dish is also cooked with black soy sauce, minced meat and topped with a raw egg on top. It was served piping hot and you need to stir and mix everything together for a smooth and perfect gravy texture. It is so good coated with the egg to be eaten just like that. This reminds me of the one I had many years back at Seng Kee Restaurant.
There are other dishes available as well. You can check out the menu here.
Our total bill was RM57.30 inclusive of 3 drinks and 10% service charge. The queue started to form after 7pm so be sure you manage your time. The mall itself is not fully open yet. Many stores especially level 3 and 4 are not open. Mostly are F&B outlets opened in this mall. My friends from Singapore prefer this over Uncle Pou Wok’s KL hokkien mee version. But of course it would be even better if the wok hei taste can be distinctive. If you are exploring this new mall, drop by here to check it out then.
