Jumbo Group of Restaurants has recently launched two brand new dining concepts, Zui Yu Xuan Teochew Restaurant ( 醉宇轩经典潮膳 ) and Chao Ting at Far East Sqquare. I was at Zui Yu Xuan Teochew Restaurant few days ago to check out the place.

The restaurant is nestled in a two-storey heritage building. The restaurant interior is beautifully refurbished with dining space dressed in muted tones of beige with flourishes of maroon. There are Teochew art pieces carefully chosen from Chaozhou, a city in the eastern Guangdong province of China to create a modern oriental ambience. There are total 6 private rooms at second floor. Four of which can be combined and best part is that the private rooms are fully equipped with KTV suite facilities.

Here are the dishes that we tried during the food tasting session.
Cold Crab S$12.00++ per 100g
Zui Yu Xuan Teochew Restaurant - cold crab
Hardcore Teochew fans will know about the Cold Crab dish. We were told that each crab is weighed approximately 400g and were full of roe and very flavourful as an appetizer. You can opt to dip with the dipping sauce but I prefer on its own.

Next, we tried the Teochew appetisers and my favourite is the home-made ‘Puning’ beancurd. It is either you like it or not because it has the stinky tofu aftertaste.

I enjoyed the tender chicken meat and the sauce enhanced the savoury flavour to this dish.

Geoduck Clam Blanched with Superior Broth S$16.80++ per 100g

This dish reminds me of the dish I had at Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard. Same same but different though. The soup base here are prepared using Teochew style and it tasted intense,milky, rich and comforting. They added in crunchy enoki mushrooms along with the fresh geoduck clam.

Crispy Fried Sea Cucumber and Shiitake Mushroom with Abalone Sauce S$24.00++ per portion

I would definitely recommend you to order this. It is surprisingly good after the deep-frying method. I would say quite a satisfying dish with all the goodness elements in it.

Teochew Oyster Omelette ‘Gooey Style’ S$13.00++ per portion

This is a classic rendition dish with starch, egg and oyster to prepare this dish. Enjoy it with vinegar chilli for stronger flavours.

Promfret and Rice Boiled Teochew Style with Dried Shrimp and Crispy Rice S$108.00++ per portion

Comforting soup with seafood flavours in it. I enjoyed it with the crispy rice that added extra crunch to the broth. I would recommend this too!

Wok Fried ‘Kway Teow’ with Dice ‘Kai Lan’ and Preserved Radish
S$18.00++ Small | S$27.00++ Medium S$36.00++ Large

Simple but yet classic wok hei dish that looks simple but yet a challenging dish for the chef. We loved it especially the wok hei taste in it.

We ended our meal with 2 desserts- Yam Paste with Pumpkin and Gingko Nuts S$5.20++ and Teochew ‘Tau Suan’ with Gingko Nuts S$5.20++. And again, I would recommend ordering the tau suan because you will find surprise mandarin peel complements well with the dessert. My friend even went back to ‘tabao’ the tau suan next day.

If you have family gatherings or big group gatherings, this can be one of the options. The dishes here have authentic taste and the flavours are suitable for all ages. I think the elderly will enjoyed it and there is KTV for self-entertainment too.
