[SG EATS] Old World Bakuteh @ Hiap Hoe Eating House- The Famous Fried Porridge At Yishun
Old World Bakuteh at Hiap Hoe Eating House is known for its fried porridge instead of bak kut teh. The stall is located within a walking distance from Yishun MRT Station. The fried porridge is featured on social media during circuit breaker. Hence, I decided to give it a try. Thus, I took approximately 45mins bus ride to check the place. Here’s the stall front at Hiap Hoe Eating House. I also took a picture of the menu.I ordered the signature Fried Porridge S$5.00 , Braised Big Intestines S$5.00 and Fried Mee Sua + Pig’s Stomach Soup S$14.50. It’s all self-service here. Hence, wait for your order upon payment.
The signature fried porridge aka the Mixed Pig’s Organ Fried Porridge is indeed flavourful and comforting. It filled with wok hei and you can smell and taste the dark soya sauce. Priced at S$5, it comes with quite a generous portion and ingredients. The ingredients including minced pork, leaned pork, small & big intestines, liver, tau kwa cubes and topped with fried shallots, spring onions and a dash of white pepper. Definitely comforting!
As for the Braised Big Intestines, it is flavourful and springy texture with every bite.Next, we also tried their Fried Mee Sua that comes in a mini bowl size. It has a delicate texture. The pig’s organ soup wise is a bit bland for our liking though. No wonder I saw reviews saying to skip bak kut teh.If only Yishun is not far from my place, I will visit them often for the fried porridge.
