[SG EATS] The Butcher’s Wife At Tiong Bahru- NEW Menu with Gluten-Free Choice
The Butcher’s Wife located at Yong Siak Street,Tiong Bahru took over the space of Open Door Policy. The restaurant serves contemporary European cuisine, catering to a gluten-free crowd and natural wines and cocktails. I visited the restaurant recently to check out the new menu by Chef Mariana Campos D’Almeida. She is Brazil-born, Paris-trained after graduated from Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France.
Here are the highlights from our dinner visit with wine pairing session.
Dadinhos de Sago S$11.00++
Dados is referring to dice and this explains these little cubes of tapioca sago and cheese, fried to golden brown and served with dragonfruit chutney. Light and savory snack to begin the meal.
Mini Corn on Fire S$10.00++
We enjoyed this mini corn served with smoked paprika and black garlic sauce and topped with grated pecorino too.
The snacks are recommended to pair with white wine, Laurent Cazottes-Adele 2018, with almond and acacia flowers and pear flavour.
Our Own Goat Cheese S$17.00++
Goat Cheese taste can be tangy and sour but the goat cheese here is drenched with raw honey, which is a good choice. The cheese is served with “Oh My Goodness!” Buckwheat and Walnut bread.
Crispy Pig’s Ears S$21.00++
Our favourite snack for the night and it was surprisingly good. The dish is consists of red dates sauce, pickled ginger flower & wild pepper leaves. I never knew pig’s ears can be so delicious. I would recommend you to order this.
And recommend going with Camin Larredya –Part Davant 2018, white wine.
Blue Pea Flower Naan Sandwich S$20.00++
Moving on, we have the naan sandwich for the mains.
Sweet Potato Gnocchi S$22.00++
Sweet potato gnocchi served with mushrooms, pea shoots, rosemary butter and parmesan. It would be good if the gnocchi is not too sticky but the chewy texture was okay.
We were recommended going with light fruity red, Domaine Les Tete- Tete Red 2018. It is quite smooth and easy to drink.
Grilled Octopus S$27.00++
This is nicely done with tender, tasty profile accompanied with manioc puree, white kimchi and grilled broccolin.
Wagyu Picanha S$38.00++
Go for this dish if you are a beef lover. The wagyu is perfectly grilled with burnt cauliflower puree, green papaya salsa and banana powder. All the elements blend in beautifully and we enjoyed the Brazilian style rump cut especially the tenderness and umami flavour.
As for the wine suggestion, recommended going with Dominique Andiran-Magnus 2018, fresh, powerful red wine suitable to go with red meat.
Lemongrass Panna Cotta S$13.00++
Lastly, our panna cotta served with visually stunning presentation. Refreshing dessert with kalamansi curd & pineapple and topped with crispy roll for the taste and texture. Definitely a beautiful piece of art.
Warm Chocolate Cake S$14.00++
Unlike the usual chocolate lava cake, this served with caramel-miso ice-cream and pili nuts. It is something worth trying for chocolate lover.
And pair them with sweet fruity Camin Larredya-Costat Darrer ‘les Grains Des Copains 2017 to end the sweet note.
