[SG EATS] Jia Yuen Eating House At Joo Chiat- Famous For The Creamy Salted Egg Dishes

[updated 21 Nov 2020]

Jia Yuen Eating House located at 15 Crane Road is a quiet coffeeshop around Joo Chiat vicinity area. The eatery shop is not noticeable as it is nestled among a row of shophouses and opposite residential housing. We were there on Saturday late noon for our lunch and the whole place is dim like closed for business. But we saw there are people having their meals there and went ahead to check it out. We spotted the uncle at the drink stall and proceed to order. He was telling us that his staffs were not around and he is handling everything from ordering, cooking and collect payment. Aiyo! Poor thing but he still friendly and approachable.Their menu is pretty simple and straightforward. You can opt for Chicken, Fish, Pork or Pork Belly.

We ordered their signature Creamy Salted Egg Yolk Rice S$9.90 and Cereal Chicken Rice S$9.90. Reviews shared that their creamy salted egg yolk is a must-order dish here and true enough. We loved it. Deep-fried chicken coated with creamy thick salted egg yolk sauce. And fragrant the curry leaves smell and spiciness from the chillies. Shiok! But if the flour can be less thicker, it will be good. Nevertheless, this is still a good plate of creamy salted egg yolk rice with the beautiful goey egg. I ‘tapao’ back for my sisters and they approved too!As for the Cereal Chicken Rice, the deep-fried chicken is well seasoned and coated with cereal. Uncle is quite generous with the cereal too it is indeed tasty and delectable in flavour. But it can be quite dry to go with white rice and egg. For those prefer gravy based dishes, you might find it dry to pair with rice. I would suggest to order a drink to complete your meal.
The price is not cheap because the usual zi char eatery place priced at S$5.50onwards but I think it is worth trying it. I tapao back and Uncle is very generous with the rice portion. My sister said can feed two pax for small eater like them.

Payment can be made via cash, FAVE and nets. Uncle also being nice and friendly even though he is alone coping with the operation all by himself. You can feel the positive vibes when you speak with him. We left the place with happy belly and happy mode.
