[SG EATS] Chen’s Mapo Tofu -The Sister Concept of Chen Kentaro’s Two-Michelin-starred Shisen Hanten Restaurant Opens Second Outlet At Star Vista
Chen’s Mapo Tofu is the sister concept of Chen Kentaro’s two-Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant Shisen Hanten opens its second outlet at Star Vista. Their first outlet is at Downtown Gallery. This concept focuses on Sichuan cuisine and the price is pocket-friendly that cater to everyone. They used to have one outlet at Jewel Changi Airport but it was closed down recently.
So at Chen’s Mapo Tofu, they have self-service system where you order and make payment at the counter first before you get seated. The staffs will then serve you your order. Alternatively, you can place your order at the counter too.
For Chen’s Mapo Tofu, they offer set meals ( a main and a drink) with price range from S$9.80 to S$13.80. A la carte dishes are available as well. Their signatures include Mapo Tofu, Dan Dan Mien and Kaisen Katayaki. We had the signatures and also their new mains for this outlet during our visit.
Signature Combo S$14.00
The signature combo comes with 1/2 Mapo Don and 1/2 Dan Dan Mien (Soup/Dry). If you want to try everything, I would suggest to order the combo set. The Dan Dan noodles has the nutty sauce in it and it is best to stir and mix to enjoy it immediately once it is served. Otherwise, it gets sticky! As for the Mapo Don, it is packed of spicy flavour in it but somehow I felt the taste was not as flavourful like I used to had at Downtown Gallery. But overall, it is still a decent bowl of mapo don considering the price tag.
Shoyu Buta Don S$14.80
Chen’s Signature Szechwan spiced pork on rice topped with onsen egg. Umami flavours from the spiced pork, a poke on the oozing onsen egg and a good mix with the Hokkaido steamed rice is definitely a satisfying meal.
Kurozu Buta Don S$15.30
Kurozu buta don is the new don that comes with Kurozu vinegar crispy pork with stir-fried crunchy capsicums in tangy flavour on top of fluffy Hokkaiso steamed rice.
Apart from the mains and a la carte dishes, the outlet also offer Biru Nights that available after 3pm. Biru Nights here will have a different alcohol selection from its CBD counterpart, boasting smooth Suntory Premium Draft Beer and Hideyoshi Honjozo, a refreshing chilled sake. There are also sides for your alcohol pairing such as crispy Mala Chicken Wings,Mala Peanuts, Mala Potato Chips, Szechwan Edamame, Sliced Pork Belly with Pickles Chilli sauce, Cherry Tomato Pops, Garlic Marinated Cucumber and more. The sides are priced at S$4.00 to S$5.50 each.
