[SG EATS] Hortus Afternoon Tea Experience in Gardens By The Bay
Hortus located in Gardens by The Bay’s Flower Dome which is previously known as Fennel Café serves Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant also offers Afternoon Tea set. I got intrigued with the idea of having afternoon tea in Flower Dome and dated my friend for a session recently. So, we went ahead to make reservation. To my surprise, we are required to choose the choice of afternoon tea and make payment immediately to secure the reservation. For those who are planning for an afternoon tea session here, please note that you need to make full payment upon reservation.
HOW TO GET THERE
By Buggy Service
Arrive via limousine buggy service from Gardens by the Bay’s Main Entrance (Taxi Drop Off Point) to Hortus. This is exclusively for Hortus’ guests, the service runs every 10 minutes.
Note: Personalised buggy service and it’s a complimentary access to the Flower Dome via their restaurant.
By Walking
From Marina Bay Sands’ Hotel Tower 3 + Sands Skypark, walk across the outdoor driveway towards the water feature (keep to the right) to find a path leading to Marina Reservoir. At the end of the path, turn right under the Marina Bridge. Walk straight, pass the Active Garden and along Jubilee Walk till you reach Marguerite. Enter and take the lift to Level 2 to Hortus.
The afternoon tea set is priced at S$58.00++ per pax inclusive of the choice of tea or coffee. Enjoy FREE flow Prosecco with your afternoon tea when you pay S$98.00++. It comes with three-tier set with a combination of savory and sweets items.
For savoury, we had Quiche Florentine, Corn custard with trout roe, Madras curry egg sandwich, Turkey ham and cheese sandwich, Beef, and lamb en croute.
As for sweets, there are raspberry and rose macaron, Blueberry and vanilla frangipane tart, lemon meringue pie, chocolate hazelnut mousse and Mango passionfruit choux.
The last tier is their homemade scones with clotted cream & strawberry jam. My friend and I were quite disappointed with the scones. We took one bite and just leave it there. Perhaps we set expectation on scones, we thought this is too dry and doughy.
Tea selections include English Breakfast, Earl Grey,Charmomile, Blackcurrant & Hibiscus, Organic Jade Sword and Peppermint. Coffee options include Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha, Macchiato, Long Black and Flat White. One beverage per person to be served at a time.
As Hortus located right inside the Flower Dome, the view is nothing but spectacular. The cool temperature inside the dome makes the whole ambience like dining at a floral garden in overseas. The three-tier display set looks pretty but I personally thought the selections are limited.
For the price tag and quality of the food, I thought other places like One- Ninety at Four Seasons or Colony are better in terms of selections, quality, and service.
Nevertheless, the dining experience is still not bad with the ambience and the complimentary access to Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bays after out tea date. If you are into good dining ambience, you can check out Hortus but do not set high expectation on their Afternoon Tea.
