[SG EATS] A CELEBRATION OF ABUNDANCE WITH INDOCAFE THE WHITE HOUSE

My last Chinese New Year tasting at a colonial-style façade building named Indocafe- The White House. It’s is just a few minutes walk away from Newton MRT station and it is just opposite National Environment Agency. This white house has its own complimentary parking at the premises for those who are driving.

Upon reaching the entrance of the restaurant, we were greeted by the friendly manager, Mr Zamzi. We were welcomed with the spacious colonial interior theme and wooden furnishing. It has the cosy feeling for family and friends gathering over a meal.

Takeaway is available for purely yusheng and yusheng abalone with different pricing. In this photo, we were served Yu Sheng with abalone. The abalones are all in mini sizes and the whole plating served was full of colours. The sauces are made in-house and the must mention sauce is their curry sauce. The curry sauce surprisingly added flavours to the traditional yusheng giving me a new perspective taste of this dish.

Treasure Pot – Pen Cai (盆菜) – S$298.00++ (6 pax)

Pen Cai or known as Poon Choy is a must-have dish in most Chinese New Year menu. This basin is full of goodness and savoury ingredients that every diner can enjoy luxuriously. In IndoCafe, the gravy has the mild flavours that bring out the taste of individual ingredients.

Prawn Roll, Chive Dumpling & Kueh Pie Tee with baby abalone (招財進寶)

Every single piece is nicely executed.

Stir-fried Jumbo Tiger Prawns with Homemade Sambal (鸿运当头)

Fresh jumbo tiger prawns served as my friend can easily peel off the shell by using fork. Her first respond when she took the first bite “ F**king delicious”. Enough said. (pardon the language as that’s the way she expressed her love on the dish)

Inchi Kabin-S$14.00

This dish caught my attention from their standard menu so I decided to give it a try. Deep-fried organic chicken marinated in blue ginger and lemongrass rempah paste. This nyonya style fried chicken is full of flavours with the marinated spices. It has the crispy outer layer and soft in the inner part. I am definitely going back again for this.

Desserts

We ended our meal with 3 choices of desserts for two. Their signature Chendol panna cotta S$12.00 , Pulut Hitam S$9.00 and Bubur Cha Cha S$10.00. My favourite is Pulut Hitam while my friend’s favourite is Bubur Cha Cha. The sweetened black glutinous rice porridge served with salted coconut milk has the distinct taste that I enjoyed. As for Bubur Cha Cha, this traditional nyonya dessert soup of yam, sweet potatoes and banana in rich coconut milk has a strong banana flavour in it. But my friend enjoyed it very much and commented that it’s brilliant to have it with banana.

Instead serving the traditional chendol, IndoCafe served them in panna cotta. The gula melaka is served separately so that customers can control the sweetness level. Some may enjoy this new twist of servings but for me, I will just stick to traditional.

INDOCAFE has 4 Chinese New Year menus with a starting price from S$248.00++ – S$888.00++.
