Mellben Signature is known by the locals for their savoury chilli and butter crabs. But do you know that other than Mellben Signature located at Ang Mo Kio, you can find them at Tanjong Pagar? But do take note that they have change to a new location located at Tanjong Pagar Plaza. The previous location, Bestway Building is no longer operating. This new location is easily located and just few minutes walk away from Tanjong Pagar MRT station.




 It was CNY Day 8 and I am still in Chinese New Year mood. 14 pax of us gathered together to have the tasting session courtesy of Mellben Signature. Here are the foods that we tried the night:

Austalian Baby Abalone in Superior Sauce S$12.00/pc

Seafood Crispy Beancurd S$12.00 / S$15.00 /S$18.00
 You will never go wrong with crispy beancurd.

Salted Egg Pork Ribs S$15.00/ S$20.00 /S$30.00
 I went ‘wow’ when it was served on the table. It was huge and coated with salted egg sauce. The pork ribs meat was tender and well-coated with the salted egg sauce.My favourite dish.

Icy-Chilled Sweet & Sour Pork S$15.00 / S$20.00 /S$30.00
 It is advised to consume it before the ice cubes melt. Although we were told that the plate will drain the melted ice water, it is advisable to have it before it gets soggy. You will not be able to enjoy the sweet sour sauce.

Stir Fried Garlic Chives with Shimeji S$20.00 / S$30.00 /S$40.00
 This is another vegetable dish that I will order if I am having Chinese food at the restaurant. I like the combination of the ingredients and best to enjoy with a bowl of white rice.

Deep Fried Marble Goby in Homemade Thai Sauce (Seasonal Price)
 I loved the crispy and crunchy bites of the deep-fried fish and you will never go wrong with the thai sauce.

Braised Beehoon Crab
 The braised beehoon crab is prepared with black pepper sauce. The smooth bee hoon has the strong peppery sauce meanwhile the crab is fresh and sweet.

Creamy Butter Crab (Seasonal Price)
 It would be great if the buttery taste stronger. Nevertheless, the seafood sweetness and the creamy taste goes pretty well. I also enjoy dipping the mantou with the sauce.

Chilli Crab (Seasonal Price)
 Chilli crab is served here as well. It has the certain spice level that I can feel the after spicy taste linger in my mouth. The sauce is best to dip with mantou.

Claypot Crab Beehoon Soup
 Lastly, the signature Mellben dish that every table will order. The milky soup is the key selling point for this dish. With the sweetness of the crab added into the soup, it enhances the flavour of the dish. Diners can request to add more soup and beehoon with additional cost.

And the current crab price is S$65.00/kg.If you ever visit Mellben, you must order their crab. They gained the popularity when they serve crab dishes in early days at Ang Mo Kio. So, if I have triggered your taste bud on zi char dishes, make sure you call to make a reservation before dropping by. You may end up queuing for quite sometime.
