[SG EATS] TEMPURA KOHAKU 天ぷら 琥珀 AT EAT AT SEVEN SUNTEC CITY- WORTH QUEUING FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR?

Tempura Kohaku is the second tendon restaurant after Ginza Itsuki in Singapore. I have not been to Ginza Itsuki yet so I am unable to give my two cents worth of comment on the comparison. But I am sharing my dinning experience with Tempura Kohaku though.

So, I met Nikki and Jacq for dinner after work on Wednesday night. I went to queue for Tempura Kohaku at 6.59pm and it was an hour queue before we finally get seated. The menu options are straightforward and simple. Signature Kohaku Tendon S$15.00, Vegetables Tendon S$14.00 available both in original and spicy flavours and of course set menu are available with choice of udon.

And of course I ordered the signature Kohaku Tendon S$15.00 and waited 33 minutes to serve. It was 8plus and we were so hungry. As I looked around, no one took picture when the food was served. I guess too hungry after the wait but we still took pictures before we start our meal. Guess this has become a habit!

The gorgeous original Kohaku tendon includes crunchy long beans, baby corn, juicy mushrooms, sweet and soft pumpkin, crabstick, chicken, prawns and seafood with thin and crispy tempura batter. A bowl of goodness and it was satisfying! The chicken fillet was quite a big piece and surprisingly the breast meat was moist and tender. I do not enjoy breast meat because I find the meat is hard and dry but surprisingly it was good.

As for the short-grain rice, it was fragrance and the sauce blends well with it. The combination works beautifully and it was indeed a filling bowl. There is also pickled radish with yuzu and subtle ginger taste served on the table. It is free flow and it can be quite addictive the moment you start. Too bad I didn’t take a shot of it because I was too engrossed waiting for my dinner to be served.

We each have a glass of Cold Green Tea S$2.00 (refillable) to quench our thirst after the long wait. The green tea was thick and

We paid S$60.00 for 2 bowls of original Kohaku Tendon , 1 bowl of spicy version and 3 glass of green tea at the counter. (Price inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% GST).

Note: The ventilation is not very well done so as you walked out from the restaurant, do get prepared to smell like tempura.

As much as I love the food here, I don’t think I will queue this long for my next visit.
