Few weeks ago I was in Penang for Golden Sands Resort staycation. My bff and I took the opportunity to check out One Garage Slappy Cakes located at M Mall, Times Square on one of the afternoon. Slappy Cakes is actually one of the dining concepts under One Garage restaurant where next to it is the One Steamboat, another dining concept under one roof.

So, what’s so special with One Garage Slappy Cakes? Instead of the conventional way of serving pancakes, diners especially children can have the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) pancakes. There are ready-to-cook batter and your choice of toppings for pancakes decoration.

Here are the simple steps to get started:

Step 1- Choose your favourite batter flavours – Buttermilk, Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Pandan
Step 2 – Choose toppings with additional cost of RM3.50 each
Step 3 – Start your DIY pancake

Each table has the built-in hotpan for diners to customize their pancakes. If you are bringing your kids along, they will surely enjoy having fun with DIY activities. It’s very easy cooking the pancakes since all the ingredients are ready and all you need to do is to squeeze the batter on to the sizzling hotpan and pan fry it. You can doodle cute shapes or cartoon characters from the batter.
We are no expert of doodling so we did simple heart-shaped pancakes with added toppings onto it.

On top of the DIY pancakes, there are other savoury dishes you can order from the menu. We had the Slappy Benedict RM26.00. This is one of their signature dishes with nicely done poached eggs with hollandaise sauce served on top muffin along with potatoes and greens.

And we also had Smoked Salmon Salad RM21.00 which inclusive of smoked salmon, fresh green, crouton, parmesan cheese and cherry tomatoes. It was quite a large portion given the value.
I think that One Garage Slappy Cakes can be one of the family outings over the weekend especially with the kids. Kids will be thrilled with the DIY and the sweet stuffs to add on to their customize pancakes. As for the adults, you can order the all day brunch menu here in the restaurant with the kids.
