[PENANG EATS] PITT STREET KOAY TEOW SOUP (椰脚粿条汤 )@ CARNAVON STREET | GEORGETOWN

During my visit to Penang few weeks ago, my friend bought me to this famous shop serves Koay Teow Soup that uses local eels to make the fishball. As we parked the car at the opposite direction, I looked up at the shop signage. It was faded and not clear at all but tourists and customers seem to find their way here to try the food. This shop was initially only a stall at Pitt Street until they moved to a shop at Carnavon Street.

This shop holds the memories of Penangites and it is like a taste of childhood memories. As I reached the place, it was full house and we need to find seats. There is no queuing system and some even share table with strangers. So, we did share a table with stranger and called the lady boss for the order.

So, what so unique about their Koay Teow Th’ng (soup)?
Not your usual fish ball because they are made using eel meat and it was softer. There is also pork lards in the dish to enhance the fragrance. The Koay Teow texture was smooth and delicate. It even slips through my chopsticks. As for the broth, it was light, flavourful and mild in taste.
And special highlight of their handmade pork fillets that are special made with strong peppery taste. We ordered a bowl with ingredients only because the actual servings have limited pieces.
Dry version is available but their signature is the soupy version. Some may like it some may not. So it’s all depends on personal preference.
Their Koay Teow Th’ng usually sold out by noon (before 4pm) especially during weekend. So, be sure you manage your schedule and be here earlier to check them out.
Do note that the parking is quite challenging. Some parked at the roadside but I would advise you to park the opposite open space car park though.
