[SG EATS] KURO MAGURO- MAGURO DONBURI IN TANJONG PAGAR CENTRE
Kuro Maguro is a concept by Misaki Megumi Suisan, a wholesaler of maguro and sashimi in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Kuro Maguro is also under the same group as Eat At Seven, Suntec City. The restaurant is located just few steps away from Hattendo Japanese Bun if you are wondering where is it located.
Why “Kuro Maguro”?
Kuro Maguro refers to bluefin tuna. It is one of the most expensive varieties and a bluefin tuna fetched a 74.2-million-yen price tag at an auction held in Tsujiki market, Tokyo. In Kuro Maguro, they insist to use meat culled from blue fins that weigh a minimum of 280kg.The fish is directly imported from Misaki Port to Singapore via ANA air freight. It also uses a technique called super frozen to freeze its maguro. Thus,freshness is a guarantee here.
I was invited to the media tasting last week and witness the blue fin tuna cutting session on the spot by the chef.
Here are the highlights:-
Maguro 3-cut sashimi S$38.00++
Look how beautiful the colours of the tuna fresh from the cut after the cutting demo by the chef.
Sansyoku Meshi S$32.80++
Three types of maguro served in freshness and the uni has the taste of the sea. I wish I can have more uni serving.
Toro Aburi Meshi S$32.80++
My favourite bowl features chunks of flame-seared tuna that boast a smoky charred flavour. My friend even commented that she is in ‘heaven’ after the first mouth. Buttery fat and so soft and disintegrates instantly.
Kama Yaki S$34.00++
If sashimi is not your type, you can try their kama yaki instead.
Other than above mentioned dishes, there are Salmon Oyako Meshi S$20.80++ and Salmon Toro Aburi Meshi S$24.80++. The classic Barachirashi S$18.80++ with assortment of cubed sashimi is available as well.
Promotion:
1 to 3 February 2017, Kuro Maguro’s Grand Opening Sale will entitle all customers to 50% off the delicious Otoro Meshi donburi. Limited to ONE bowl per person.
Honestly, the price is slightly steep especially if they are targeting lunch crowd. But hey, its fresh sashimi so I guess it is still worth indulging once in a while but not everyday for me.
[Note: This is an invited tasting.]
